Hello, Is it ok to use third party programs such as WTFast, Pingzapper,… to reduce lag? Can i get banned from using those programs?
This is a good question; however, I personally wouldn’t risk relying on them.
While these programs aren’t exactly VPNs, per se (lookup: GPN), they function as tunneling services to shorten the distance your packets have to travel by cutting down on the amount of hops between network nodes (i.e., if your ISP doesn’t use efficient routes, such programs may help by enabling you to send and receive packets to/from the game servers faster by utilizing a shorter path).
The reason I believe such programs aren’t tolerated (in many MMORPGs) is because tunneling services have a negative stigma associated with them due to the prevalence of botters/gold sellers/farmers primarily relying on them. Of course, botters/gold sellers/farmers aren’t very likely to use GPNs–they’ll use VPNs so they can also hide their IP and location.
There are already a few threads on this very topic if you use the search function at the top. Some people have claimed they’ve been banned for using WTFast and others say they still use it to this day. You’ll just have to weigh the risks if you don’t receive a staff response.
