Thinking of Paladin

So, due to getting a new job and regular life stuff (having a wife, homes chores, etc) I’m reconsidering what class I want to play because I will undoubtedly be able to play less in the week when the game is actually out anyways. My schedule will most likely be scattered 2 hour a day play times and weekends. What that means is my online friends will most likely out grind my levels and I’ll be soloing or looking for short party times with people.

I was going to go Squire and may still but I see them being hard to solo level (sword>Pelt>Hop>Cata>squire C2) and although I like the idea of setting up shop to help out people I can see it as being more of a long term Alt maybe. So i’m looking toward an old favorite idea of mine, The durable Paladin. Wondering if I could get some insight into a build i’ve put alot of thought into

  • equips would go for AoE, Stats would be Str/Con/Dex

As I haven’t played TOS yet how would leveling a cleric then Priest C2 with those stats be? I’m basically trying to become a AoE dmg, good group buffs, off heals/rezz, Pillar to stick to during battle kind of guy. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

if you want to go for paladin + priest you’ll most likely need a krivis with daino in your party, or buy daino scrolls (will take some time before those go cheap ;( )

your damage will most likely be from the priest tree with sacrament and blessing, wich will be good at earlier levels, but you’ll struggle when you get to the higher levels
smite is only good against plate armored enemies and flying enemies, paladin rank 2 is basically just increasing rank 1 spells

i guess at rank 3 it might be somewhat good, with an amazing level 15 resist elements, and barrier, i haven’t seen that dmg spell in action, but i’m not much optimist with those dmg numbers (590 at level 5, and no attributes), maybe in-game it’s better? i mean, if it hit 3~5 times, maybe it’s good…

but myself, personally, would not incourage you to go for paladin

my personal opnion, maybe there are people who would disagree with me @_@

It’s a fine Paladin build. Great group buffs. But you’re not going to do strong AoE damage on your own, the Paladin isn’t that kind of class. Although you will do massive damage to Demon/Mutant types.

I think the AoE damage will actually be quite high and group benefits will make you a great addition to any party. I honestly started to get a bit worried because both of you said damage will probably be low but I went looking for someone that had close to (actually almost the same) to my build with some footage. Here it is : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cuWQKm6-Xpg

It seems to handle fairly well.

Paladin’s damage is pretty satisfactory IMO, it’s very fun to wreck mobs with smite and heal yourself. You’re a sustain machine(if you go with a CON/SPR build).

Damage is only low on some maps, and on those maps you will avoid the grinding(trust me, you don’t need to grind on any of those, there will always be a map you will have high damage) You won’t be a DPS, but you can survive and kill pretty well.

I’d also encourage you to put at least two points in turn undead, some enemies are just too tough for you to kill hit by hit and turn undead can save your ass on those times(chance of killing is low but pray for RNGesus)

Until level 40ish I went mainly STR, with a bit of CON/DEX on one of my Priest,

It would be no problem at all. Your Healing skill won’t hit hard, but your STR and maxed Deprotected Zone will make up for it (at least for bosses… Deprotected Zone spawns a circle that lowers the defense, so if the boss/mob moves from the circle, it doesn’t have the effect on anymore).
Also, once in the Chapel, all the bosses/mobs there are Evil-type while all your attacks are Holy-based… so they’ll die pretty fast, and there you should reach Priest 2 with Sacrament/Blessing that will help even more.

Although I really wouldn’t advise to max Sacrament. Because it doesn’t scale well as you level, so in the end it’ll be a waste of skill points.
Mass Heal will be better with a few more points in, because it’s an aoe instant cast high heal.
You may want to up Resurrection to 2 too if you plan on taking the attribute of Revive.

For the rest of the build… In my opinion, you shouldn’t go Paladin 3.
You should go Paladin 2, not max Smite (the damages isn’t that great), put a few of Smite’s points instead in Restoration and Undead, then go for a DPS class like Monk, since you’ll be STR/CON/DEX based.
This way you’ll have the defensive and offensive buffs and the good attack skills. You’ll have some DPS, survivability and resistance.
If you want to be a Paladin anyway, I’d just advise not to go Barrier 5 because as soon as you’ll party with more supportive classes it’ll be pretty obsolete because they’ll have better buffs (and if there’s no Krivis in the party, you’ll be restricted to only 5 buffs).

Thanks for the look over. I’m def going to look into monk to see what thats all about. As for Barrier, I’m pretty sure it increases magic attack by like 100% at level 5 with the skill attribute. I could be wrong though.

if that’s the main reason you’re going pally, then give up XD this are all actual attributes:

From what im reading its a attribute with 5 levels with 20%/level of magic damage but only to enemies hit with barrier. As its been described to me via the forums from people who play paladin the effect goes to party members too as long as they are IN the barrier too. Making mages hit like trucks with +100% magic damage. Obviously i’m going off of what I read and was told so take it with a grain of salt because ive not tested it.
