doesnt really matter what you call the phase this game is in… the fact remains true that they sold a product that is incredibly unfinished and doesnt even work half the time. its sad that this became industry standard during the last few years and people like you justifying it, just lets publishers know that they can keep pulling bullshit like that.
Despite what veteran players or those who have been following ToS for a long time know about what is considered beta/open beta, the actual Steam release does not have an exact clause about this as far as I’m aware (maybe I’m wrong? Someone can quote it and shut people up if this is the case).
On Steam it is actually not released (tagged) as an Early Access product, which according to Steam is actually an incomplete game and players should therefore consider that there are likely to be problems/changes to it.
On the Steam Store, EA stands for Exclusive Access not Early Access (even if it is to be considered Early Access).
This type of marketing/advertising is actually a problem for some people who haven’t been following the game for years and who wouldn’t know to expect that what is written on the store page is not exactly what is being sold to them.
It doesn’t really matter to me - I really like the game and publishers do tend to make a ton of mistakes. But that’s not a good reason to deny why some people may actually feel very misled. My irrelevant wish is just that they had thought about server capacity more carefully.
The Open beta state of the game became an excuse for the developers.
There are many bugs, lags etc? no problem its still open BETA. It will last for months, so if you dont like the game at this point… leave it.
They rushed ToS to the NA/EU market not because its and awesome game and they couldnt w8 for us to see it/play it. They hoped you will love the game as it is so they can get your money.
I think you misspelled “they ran out of development money and released the game unfinished to get money to continue developing the game”.
Yes they did indeed sell a product that is incredibly unfinished. I was not arguing that point at all.
I was merely pointing out that in EVERY SINGLE early access the game is in a unfinished and unpolished state.
Is this a good business practice? NO.
Does it make the customers happy? NO.
The fact remains I see a lot of you people losing your S about an early access game where you should be expecting this sort of treatment. It hasn’t really been that bad considering.
I wish people would stop using “this is still beta/not released yet” as an excuse for the poor state that the game is in.
just because i got treated poorly in one restaurant doesnt mean that justifies being treated poorly in another one
i would still get mad in that situation since i paid for something that wasnt really delivered ^^
and i played many other mmorpgs in early access and it has rarely been this bad tbh… items disappearing from market, getting screen freezes pretty frequently (even in unpopulated areas), many disconnects, minor bugs, and right now most people cannot even connect.
i agree many people get a bit too mad about this and dont watch their tone in their complaints but i think there is reason to be disappointed at least
its not BETA the game underwent a closed alpha and 2 closed beta tests which were tagged AS BETA TESTS this is the full release early access… the build is 1.05 ! this means its is a patched version of the finished product holy crap do people know nothing.
The build could be ver. 563.798. The game is in beta until the game company says otherwise.
“…holy crap do people know nothing.” How long have you been in the video game industry?
The “Early Access” associated with Steam (especially because this game is on Steam) and the “Founder Exclusive Access” makes this really confusing and possibly misleading. When I was told about this game I was told that it was on Steam and that you paid for an “early access” pass. I said I didn’t want to play it if it was a Steam Early Access title.
It doesn’t matter now that it’s done, but I can see where the rage is coming from, from a lot of different angles.
For example, for some people who knew about the game or played CBT and rushed to give them money:
“However, we will be opening a Founder’s Server before a more public release in order to show our appreciation to those that wish to show us their support.”
I feel that it’s implied by that statement that the game would actually show appreciation and thus wouldn’t be making so many people rage about spending money on it. Most people would expect this to mean that they’re not paying to be allowed to help with beta, I think? Maybe that’s just my thinking.
“Please only purchase the DLC if you wish to support us in the early stages of release.”
And yet this feels almost like a disclaimer.
Regardless of the technical semantics between “Early release” and “Open Beta” they have 2 weeks to fix it until real #### hits the fan. Could they have expected the amount of players they got? No.
But are they going to be able to handle the amount of new players they will get? And in addition be able to handle the complaints about all the bugs (including main quest ones) and maintain a player base?
Well IMC is about to be tested. And they sure as hell better a TOOONN more stable servers.
Even if you consider it still in beta, in the current state it’s impossible to fix all the game bugs within 1 month to make it a “release-able” game.
Pretty much! The only disclaimer is quite vague and it might not occur to people who haven’t followed ToS for a long time that this is an incomplete game let alone beta (which some are claiming it is - although ToS has deliberately removed all announcements suggesting it’s in beta stage).
I’m not 100% sure if that line was in there before as well because I know they’ve been adding bits in here and there :S (Which is probably necessary – but means the information is kind of inconsistent/imprecise across their Steam pages now. The ‘disclaimer’ isn’t in the information under the actual DLC page where it lists the complete content and information about the DLC, where it says “…please only purchase this DLC if you want instant access.” >.>…)
Oh well.
For anyone defending IMC… all these issues we are having in-game have all been their since the alpha days… so to whom ever still say “but its a beta/early access”… Stop kissing IMCs ass and wake the F up!
Command Error, aka dicID error from alpha/CBT
dungeon error, also in CBT
missing market items, was in the CBT aswell…
unable to class advance… yet again an error that was in Alpha/CBT…
Why do you guys think the K-servers are losing players by the day?
Yeah thats right… there is no fix to any of these problems yet…
Nor will there be any fix to them because they have no clue on how to fix them…
Not only that but they also implemented a Trade restriction, Market recive delay and removed player buy stands…
The chat in general affects FPS, meaning if you spam chat in any shape or form you will decrease your fps or even make your game crash… why?
“but you can block people to filter spam”… no you can’t… you only remove the “visable” part of the message… your game still gets the package of the message.
Not only that but chat also use graphics to display its content and there is now way to make it so its simple text only chat that we all know and love from other MMOs and Multiplayer Games…
