The Future of Monster Gems - Should they become tradeable?

Lots of people found at least one of these Skill+1 gems somewhere on their journey wondering, “Wtf is this…?” As soon as they noticed that its no skill used from their own class, they noticed you cant even sell that piece of crap… so what, you just use that thing for Gem enhancement now?

Thinking a bit outside the box leads to the idea of socketing the gem into a random weapon and moving it to other characters who needs it that way. You can even sell them with this. But thats clearly not intended by the devs - seeing how Monster Gems just break after re-extracting in the Korean version.

And that leads to the question of whats the future of these handy little gems?

I’d like to compare these Gems to old Ragnaroks Monster Card system. Some are extremely valuable such as Heal+1 Gems, some are just rarely used like skills used by Peltasta C3 only.

Now for every RO player, didn’t you always secretly hope for a random card dropping by random mobs while grinding all day long, making you win the lottery without intended to playing? Thats what made my day several times back then.

Now I see the same system enrolling once more in ToS, enjoying grinding once more while keeping eyes open for a gem to sell, gaining lots of money out of nothing. And at the same time fearing that IMC will follow the korean route eventually, making these cool gems totally worthless by keeping them untradeable besides of “getting killed in a dungeon by purpose to let the other guy loot them”.

As for a grinder like tos, I want to keep my hopes up for looting something I didn’t expect, getting rich randomly. (I admit I need this to keep up my motivation while grinding for hours xD)

So there are only 3 possible routes for IMC to go:

  1. Keeping it as it is, making gem trade possible but uncomfortable (because you cant search for socketed weapons with monster gems in the market)

  2. Making the gems break when extracting, leaving the drop way in dungeons only (still not impossible but even more uncomfortable)

  3. Making these Gems simply tradeable, like all the other stuff.

I’d like to have a lively market for gems on tos. The only thing to consider then is how to prevent ppl farming like crazy in low lvl areas, bugging the low lvl players - which isnt that annoying due to 30 channels actually.

Dropped on death gems cannot be picked up by other players. They disappear before you can loot them.

The monster gem system might be more interesting if they added that lvl 1 skill even if you dont have it (same way people used Vitata and Smokie cards in RO).

On KR they choose to make it break if extract gem that have 1 star…

It seems like the gems are bugged as well. You can’t set them into the secondary option (mostly Gloves/Boots). I didn’t get a chance to test out gems with one option only though.
