Thaumaturge Buff Potential

I haven’t posted much or at all on these forums but I just wanted to share information on Thaumaturge’s potential for both solo and parties [with the right composition]. Many people chastised the class as being underpowered due to its flat damage buffs.

So with a Thaumaturge circle 3, what’s so special?

Swell Left Arm: level 15, max level enhance: +304 magic/physical attack damage
Swell Right Arm level 15, max level enhance, offhand dagger: +261 magic/physical attack damage
Swell Brain level 5, max level enhance: +145 intelligence (with class rank 6, a total of +232 intelligence)
Shrink Body with max level Swell Left Arm: Shrink Size: +140 damage

All-in-all when the stars align with all the current maximum levels, class rank 6, and an offhand dagger, whoever is buffed by this Thaumaturge gets a total of +791 magical attack damage, +565 physical attack damage, and +140 damage against shrunken enemies. The former two buffs are permanent (can be refreshed before the duration ends) and the latter can be refreshed frequently.

Yes, that is a lot of requirements… Which is why Thaumaturge is pretty impractical. I agree with others that say it should give scaling buffs rather than flat ones. But that’s not to say going circle 3 doesn’t have big potential, because it certainly does.

The place where flat buffs really shine are builds with skills that hit many times. A perfect example is the Pyromancer with its Fireball, Flame Ground, Fire Pillar, and Hell Breath skills… And it just so happens that a Thaumaturge with all these buffs can get Pyromancer Circle 2 itself. This is an example build doing just that. Some points here and there are just for preference, but you get the gist of it. You’d probably want to level Swell Body more, but this version is mainly for damage.

With that build you can complete all the prerequisites and utilize the buffs to their full potential, letting your Pyromancer damage ticks run rampant. Some other builds that’ll heavily benefit from these buffs are Wizards with high damage scaling skills (Elementalist) and ones that deal many hits, physical autoattackers (565 extra damage on every hit is no joke), Bokor conga-liners if the buffs apply to the zombies, Sadhus, Druids, and probably a lot more I’m forgetting.

I was planning on running this build, but with the change of Transpose added in.

Transpose isn’t something you would want to avoid on this path, since it lets you stack 100% INT, and receive half of it as CON with the attribute it can get.

Transpose with flat INT:
Base 13 + 199 + 145 + 1 (696) INT
Base 3 + 178 (226) CON

+199 INT from Attributes and Swell Brain would bring you to 357 INT, or 696 INT at Rank 6, leaving you with 181 CON, or 226 CON at Rank 6. At skill level 3 you could keep Transpose up 100% of the time, as well as give yourself some excess for reapplying it.

For equipment, at the moment you’d most ideally end up wearing the Kalacha Dagger (+153 Fire Attack) and the Galatunis Rod (+125 Magic Attack, +100 Fire Attack).

This would bring you to +696 Attack from INT, +125 Attack from Rod, +304 Attack from Swell Right Arm, +261 Attack from Swell Left Arm and +278 Fire Attack from the Rod and Dagger.

This comes to a grand total of 1386 Attack (60.39% from Buffs), 278 Fire Attack, and +223 CON.
1526 against enemies that are shrunken.

As far as requirements, it’s really not that much apart from keeping your buffs rolling whenever they come off of cooldown. You just need to remind anyone running with you to play with a 1H Weapons + dagger or shield instead of a 2H weapon. Ideally, you’d also end up running with Swell Body for the x2 Drops, EXP and Money. For the amount of damage you’re gaining, dealing another +145 isn’t likely necessary anymore.

As a bonus, if you’re playing with a Sadhu friend, your buffs turn them into an absolute monstrosity.

I did the math too and kept it for myself as I decided to go for thaum + chrono for some insane dps :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: but shhhhh…keep it under the radars.

Just wondering, can you use swell body on yourself?

nope

20chars…

Ah I see thx, I noticed with transpose that everytime you use it, it resets your hp, is this suppose to happen? With full int, you use transpose, you now have massive amount of hp, but even with lvl3 transpose, when you use it before the duration rans out, it resets your hp as if you were full int, then you have to recover all that hp again, that’s kinda bad :frowning:

I’m not sure if the devs wanted it like that, but it does it to everyone, you’re not alone.

The problem with Thaumaturge is that the swell/shrink body skill (and transpose but less than those two) are extremely situational if not useless most of the time. At least Swell can be used for the rare shiny mobs for some good results or some double exp/drop on regular mob if you feel like it (useful when gathering material for crafting).
The worst is that they actually have good attributes going for them but due to boss being immune it kinda goes to waste. They might be good for pvp though.
The buffs are pretty good so far. Swell right arm gives me 189 matk/patk with how much i upgraded it and i get an extra +68 thanks to swell left arm. Problem is that atm i can only choose to level one at a time but it’s still a massive amount of additional party wide matk/patk.

I went cryo linker which doesn’t synergize as much as pyro due to the lack of multi hit but a linked ice wall does insane damage thanks to those buffs.

Reversi is actually pretty sweet, 3 charges on 40s cd, it’s pretty useful if some mob cast heals now and then and it probably is really useful in pvp.
