Then again, templars in mounts are actually based of from an era closely resembling that of Tree of Savior so it’s only natural to kind of compare the templars of that time to ours through their realistic nature 
templar knights = top knights \ royal knights and under the order of the king
they lead armies into battle, some are the next “king” or “a royalty”
paladins = knights of the church and under the order of the pope
*fixed, because they litteraly share a “holy cause”, just like the paladins (litteraly, because the facts were a bit different ;)).
