Taoist Revamp Thread

So I wanted to put up a constructive think tank style thread for Taoist because most of the stuff I’ve seen has been criticism for the infrastructure that the devs have created for the class. IE Making the paper expensive and very heavy so that you are limited to some degree in comparison to the effects you are getting. But nothing with any new ideas.

So looking at the skills a lot of them actually scale really really well with skill level.

Dark sights duration lasts in minuets with skill level,witch is amazing seeing as lvl 5 is really overkill as it is.

Tri Disaster charm has % resistance that goes with skill level so at lvl 5 its 50% with potential to be 150%

Energy wave has hit count scaling with skill level.

And storm callings talisman duration and storm duration scale off of skill level.

So Tao is obviously a investment class, and with the seemingly hard stance on how the talismans weigh and cost not being something that they want to change id like to discus any ideas or feedback and start a discussion. Since TOS has “quite a few things that have to be taken into consideration that may not be obvious from the end user’s perspective”

So lets discuss!! Things im looking for are new attributes for exsisting skills or maybe some reworks on how the skill durations or stuff work. Also for the most part im excluding any involvement with Krivis in this. Because people who have not taken krivis are hurting the most from this right now, and really while the synergy between zaibas and storm calling is a hallmark of most builds it is not anything that has to do with the base of Taoist itself. Also no complaining about paper weight and cost, we are assuming these wont change and it only leads to a bunch of complaining with no real answers so lets not go there and assume things are going to be the same.

(QuarrelShoter) Stone Pellet - Item weight has been changed to 1.
(Inquisitor) Wheel of Judgement - Item weight has been changed to 1.

But for starters Taoist doesn’t have ANY class attributes at all. Witch is a real problem, here’s a couple of things that I was thinking about for class attributes.

Talismans- Calligraphy Mastery: Develop a keen eye for detail and increase talisman skill levels by attribute level.
~ Max Level 3 [Circle2] Required

Taoist-Talisman efficiency: Have a 10% chance per attribute level of using a talisman spell without spending a physical resource.
~ Max lvl 3 [Circle 2] required

For existing skills:

Energy Wave- Elemental change: Change Energy waves element to [lightning] [Fire] or [Ice] Property
~ Max lvl. 1 (for each attribute)

Energy wave- Enhance attribute
~ Max lvl 100

Tri disaster charm-Expand: Expand the range of tri disaster charm by 30
~Max lvl 1

Just some stuff off the top of my head Looks like greyheim has already ninja’ed me within the first 15 min. LOL but I appreciate your skills as always good sir!.

And as a side note I hope Taoist continues to be able to amplify party damage and capabilities as I think its the route that the class is going to be known for and desired in parties for that reason.

Hidden potential: +value = 10 × [Skill Level] -value= 50 × [Skill Level]

So basicly if you fail you fail by a set number all the time where as if you increase the amount its random. Great…

Entrenchment : Stun duration is 3 seconds. Hopefully it works on bosses.

Hurling: I don’t know, and it sounds bad. But maybe I don’t know the “Way of the daoshi”

CC for energy wave is appreciated but none of the other charms depend on it, also only stunning one target is bleh. Hopefully its in a range like a lot of the other Taoist skills and can stop multiple monsters although that would be OP.

Hidden potential seems like a waste as 250 Magic attack is a drop in the bucket nowadays and unlike circle 1 tao skills it can only reach level 10, with the scaling from transcendence and rerolling headgears basicly outmoding the buff from this I wouldn’t want to take the chance to lower my parties DPS.

The paper weight being reduced to 1 is a good start, now at least we can have the ability to carry more paper. But I am hoping IMC provides some sick attributes go go along with it or tao is still going to be lackluster. Not to mention the fact that breaking wheel, a skill so good that INT based classes can make use of a physical based and physical only enhancement skill now weighs less, witch puts inqui above tao again. Not to put down inqui at all but breaking wheel is basically better than 90% of tao’s kit and now the wheels weighs less. =/

As a Taoist main I feel like all we really need (at current circle one at least) is attributes that enhance damage and lowering the weight/cost of talismans.

The suggestion to increase the radius of Tri-Disaster is a good idea though, the radius is quite small.

well it looks like they are reducing the weight to 1 witch is a good start, but the consumption of talismans is still going to be a push pull thing. Right now “Full support” is really 10 heal tiles and 6 other ranks of your choosing. But Taoist is a rank 8 Full supporting class. It isn’t really fitting in right now because Team comps demand DPS from every class.

Making energy wave lightning element is an easy way to amplify the only Taoist damage skill we have without moving mountains. Or giving it a standard enhance 100% attribute at the very least. And based on what greyheim dug up it doesn’t even look like we are getting another direct attack move in circle 2.

Revamping the exploding damage might be another avenue or maybe inflicting a status effect like silence or stun etc when talismans explode would be helpful.

Talisman of Vulnerability: Create a talisman that makes enemies more susceptible to debuffs from you and party members. Also increases the amount of time debuffs last on enemies by X seconds.

Max Level 5 : Skill level increases duration of talisman and debuff timer increase.

Attribute: Expanding Vulnerability: Casting “Storm calling” on top of Talisman of vulnerability spreads its effects to all enemies inside the storm.

Thought of this the otherday when my friends incineration debuff got resisted, and my other friend Link got resisted too and he dies haha. Would be nice given that a lot of sht resists the debuffs we use to party with.
