Tanks as a support role in Team battle league

Actually works better than I thought.

Peltastas don’t bring much to the table except sheer HP / block. However, this HP/block can tank Musketeers very well and blow their cooldowns quite often. I’m high CON and I have about 28k hp after stats standardization.

Rodeleros are amazing with Slithering. The amount of damage you soak up is incredible. If you get frozen when your cooldown ends and you don’t use the finishing hit, you get a free use of Slithering.

Squire’s arrest is all about the timing though. As long as you avoid using it when the enemy team’s Bloodletting is up (first 20 secs or so) and use it amidst confusion, it’s actually quite effective in 5v5. People don’t react fast enough to disrupt it. If there was a choice, Corsair’s hook is still way better though (but hook is near useless in PVE). Pain Barrier before use is a must.

However, this role only works if you have most of your team alive, since you do close to 0 damage. I cannot imagine this working in 2v2 or 1v1.

Was good fun though, charging through all those ice wall particles. 5 wins 2 losses is nice.

I tend to use my Level 15 Guardian, Level 15 High Guard + Attributes + Full Plate. Then rush the first Archer I see. Have three uses of Bash, two uses of Umbo Blow. Equalling out to stun locking someone for a good 5 ~ 10 seconds. By then, around two to three people will start wailing on me and I’ve successfully taunted the enemy team. =p My hp, defense, magic defense and block rating is so high that they literally cannot kill me unless they all attack me for a good 5 minutes straight.

Do you have Slithering in your build? IMO it’s only fun if you have Slithering :wink:
Magic defense doesn’t do much to be honest. Wizards still hurt bad when slithering’s down.

I’ve got some STR and DEX in my build so in the event I’m caught 1v1, I can still do some damage. Targe Smash does about 880 each hit for reference, without Slithering debuff.

Rest is all Squire stuff, but Arrest is op in pvp as well. VERY OP

All in all, the point is not to 1v1 or carry in damage, but to stall out other people with knock back, stuns and silences while taking absolutely little to no damage.

So based on what you are telling here, seems like even though without Restrain, Swordies to be precise the tanky ones can be good in pvp… :cherry_blossom: :cherry_blossom: :cherry_blossom:

To be honest, it’s only decent in random group PVP, since it takes at least 1 round to figure out the enemy’s build. Also, engaging with your team is even more important since you can’t kill anything on your own with a tank build.

I don’t expect this to work in top tier 5v5 PVP though, if there ever is such a thing. Enemies can keep you cc’ed once they figure out you’re a tank that does little damage.

That’s implying that they can keep me CC’d. The only thing I’ve ever been stopped by was another Squire’s Arrest. Besides that, my block rate is so immense; I just literally ignore everything on top of having pain barrier activated. Once I get into a good position and the enemies grouped, I can immediately use arrest myself to keep the enemy team locked down for a few seconds.

I’ve been shut down by Psychokino’s Raise before. They cast it and then they can ignore me for 10 secs. Not much anybody can do about that. Aside from that, Chronos and Cryos are hard to deal with too. Also I literally can’t touch full dex Musketeers, my skills don’t land and I’ve put some DEX in my build too.

Tanks are fun in PVP, but I’m not kidding anyone - I can’t contribute as much as cookie cutter builds like Sword 3 Cata 3 Dragoon that can actually kill enemies.

Well no one said Tanks were as viable as just going for a DPS build. It’s just purely finding what you need to do as a Tank to support your team.

How effective is Langort’s silence effect in there?

Langort’s Silence doesn’t seem all too good. When it does work though, it makes anyone run away if they aren’t knocked down already, I just use it for the attribute.

You literally need to use it just before the enemy hits, and it needs to be an enemy doing physical damage. I hardly use it to be honest

Yeah, I was thinking it’d only be helpful on very telegraphed attacks like Rush, Pouncing, or maybe Snipe. A shame Revenge Seven Fold isn’t physical, or a silence could be applied off retaliated attacks.

It doesn’t affect the user of deployed traps right?
