Talt becomming the universal trading currency?

Much like diablo 2 had SoJ’s it seems that talt is becoming the trading currency. Each sell for around 5k so people wanting to buy something for 100k for example will trade 20 talts for the item then that player will sell the talt for silver.

lol it was bound to happen. Better talt than RMT silver.

I don’t think it can become a universal currency because if I’m correct, it binds when you trade it.

Someone should check if that’s true. If it is, then it can’t become a new trade currency.

You’d have to run many many many dungeons in order to build up enough talt for the more expensive items…

200 dungeon runs just to trade a 1 million silver item? It might work initially but for larger scale trades, a single user just won’t be able to farm enough talt to make this a viable alternative currency…

It binds when traded or sold on the market. But if any moron is selling talts on the market place for under 5k, might as well buy it for profits.

i don’t think it will be possible to have a “trading currency” in this game, due to the problem that almost every tradeable, non-gear item only allows a single trade (which includes marketplace sales).

silver will remain a viable currency for a long time, at least for the marketplace.
as for personal trades, it will basically be an open barter system.

obviously, this will change depending on how IMC decides to update the trading system in the future like they say they’re planning to.

as an aside, the reason the SoJ developed as a “currency” for Diablo 2 was because the in-game cash was basically worthless. millions of gold could be farmed up easily, and there was a cap on the maximum amount of gold you could possess anyway. (2.5m in Stash, plus 990k on character; just under 3.5m total.)
to compare how valueless gold actually was, all of the shop NPC’s sold magic gear, and at high levels, the randomly generated gear could, in rare cases, exceed prices of 3.5m gold, making it literally impossible to buy. on the flip side, in its infinite wisdom, blizzard chose to cap the sale price of items to vendors at a maximum of 35k in the hardest difficulty, and less than that in lower difficulties. (lol, i remember 1 tragedy, where i accidentally sold a piece of gear i was planning to use soon to the vendor… got my 25k max on normal difficulty, realized my mistake… and they wanted 1.3million to buy it back… oops!)

that said, in my experience, the SoJ itself was more of a hypothetical currency than a real one. that is, it had an assumed value, and things were measured in comparison to it (that axe is worth about 3 SoJ, etc), but in practice the SoJ was hardly ever traded. this is because, as an adopted currency, it was a prime target for hackers and dupers… while in legit play it had a very small drop window and was exceptionally rare.
