So this is my 1st character in ToS and I went High-barb2. I planned on going fencer and didn’t want to tank so i grabbed Highlander instead but I didn’t know about the Guardian attribute. Is taking Pelt it rank 5 still ok to do or is that too late?

Having both HL and Pelt for a Fencer will gimp your build. Either carry on without Pelt or reroll since it’s still early for you. You can turn that char into a Doppel or Shinobi instead or just leave it for dungeon rushing.
Speak for yourself. Highlander C2 on Fencer has good synergy.
So HL2>Barb2>Pelt>Fencer for him is what you’re suggesting. I don’t play Fencer so OP may get better advice elsewhere, but on paper if going HL2 then wouldn’t he be better off going HL3 Barb1? I just don’t see what HL2 will provide for Fencers so please explain.
The popular builds I see are Barb3>Cor1 or Barb2>Cor2. I can even see Doppel offering more than HL2 so I don’t know what trick I’m missing here.

you pretty much exchange corsair circle for highlander if you continue with pelt.

It’s not optimal (nothing is right now) but it is certainly fine. In all honesty you can actually reroll if you don’t want that path, 4 ranks is something pretty fast to achieve. Even if you don’t, Highlander is exceptional with Fencer given Crossguard’s bonus pierce damage, Lunge, Skyliner. Highlander 3 would only offer Skull Swing which is good but not a game changer when you already have Coquille for your main damage source - pierce. It’s whatever really.
I’m a HL2>Pelt1>Cor1>Fencer2. The highlander crosscut + skyliner combo gets +50% more damage from Lunge. Cooldown is not bad as well. It works, though IMO it’s either HL2 or Barb2/3 and not just 1 circle of each for fencer builds.

Party recruit you for your swashbuckling skill. they dont even care what damage the swordsman do. Personally im taking pelt @ rank 6 myself.
of course there are people who doesnt care about this but it is really rare
