Swordsmen paths in PvP

Okay so let us bring back the most overly discussed topic on our Sword Forums but this time regarding PvP. Let us ignore the fact it is completely unbalanced and broken for now as well.

Basically, what path would everyone take on Ranks 2, 3, 4 and 5 for a PvP match?

[Bring about the Sword 2 versus Pelt 1 if you wish so since I believe Sword 2/3 might have some potential for PvP scenarios and it is one of my greatest doubts so far (took Swordsman 2 for the 12 seconds slowdown myself)].

Let the massive hateful salty discussion start. If you feel like it… whenever… again.

… This is old news sword3 is common in pvp.

Seems like the most common build is Sw3-Cat3-Drg. I can see why, you get restraint and mobility. Shame you don’t see much else.

Rodelero 2/3 has potential as well.

Sword 2/3 is like bread and butter of a pvp swordie.

Cannot help but think that Highlander is so very much decent versus physical targets. But I would also say it would suck when up against any form of magic (even more than it already does) given their lack of CC. They have got no CC whatsoever.

How well does Squire’s arrest fare in PvP? Have never tried or seen one for myself.

Without using dispellers, I’ve never had any problems dealing with Sw3>Cata3 and I’m a Sw>Pelt>HL2>Cor>Fencer

My thoughts:

  • Sword 3 is not worth it, oracle/pd/dispeller everywhere.
  • Peltasta 1 - 25% HP/block is great for GvG, where you can keep swashbuckling up.
  • Rodelero 2/3 - might be the new meta (slitherring gives 70% resistance, 2 100% strike buffs + new shooting star = great damage)
  • Corsair 1 - necessary, c2 is great with hoplite c2
  • Dopple 1/2 - cyclone best offensive skill (75% resistance/mobily/high damage)
  • Fencer 1/2 - great burst/evasion
  • Cata 3 - will always be good.
  • Highlander - not worth it.
  • Barbarian1/2 - 50% slash damage buff on cleave
  • Shinobi - clones do not work for pvp, stealth hooks are great.

Important stuff I found about PvP:

  • Heavy crit builds do not work for pvp, your enemys crit resist will be to high to benefit from this kind of build and also the 30% str buff will seal this.
  • Swordsman in general can’t face clerics, especially druid builds (diev/krivis).

Best builds for overall PvP:

  • pelt > x > rodelero 3 > corsair
  • pelt > x > rodelero 2 > corsair > doppel
  • pelt > hoplite > cata 3 > doppel/corsair/dragoon (in that order)
  • pelt > x > rodelero 2 > fencer 2

My opinion is based on my own experience (duels mostly) playing swordsman and also other classes facing swordsman, and ofc I’m assuming we will get KTOS patches at some point.

with an pvp build pelt is not needed and it will waste 1 rank
also sword man c3 is not only for lv 10 restraint, also for lv 10-15 pain barrier which is very necessary in pvp
fencer c2 is a must if you already up to c1 since you can do an high dmg burst with preparation

and you think high crit buff is not work, it’s wrong. If you are not against a high CON build it’s very helpful, also high STR mean less CON and DEX which lead to low sustain and accuracy which is very bad for sword man.

if you are against an high DEX build you will need 200-250 DEX to be effective and other point should up to CON for sustain, that’s why most of sword man PvP in Kr have low or no STR

bla bla bla, honestly you must be joking, all pvp swordsmans that i have ever seen in the kr version are almost 3xx str and 2xx dex, with a bit of con or just juggernauts with a lot of con, in pvp evasion is hella nerfed soo you don’t need high dex to hit, another thing is that preparation is almost useless in pvp (moving targets with a low aoe ratio and inecistence reach that only deals double of your next pierce attack, honestly hoplite2corsair2 have a higher burst with better aoe and reach, if you’re a fencer in pvp you will mostly try to land step or lunge and spam coquile hoping to hit him with it.)

lol 2xx dex and 3xx str at the sametime

please calculate before you try to be smart
don’t make me laugh :smile_cat:

Ofc peltasta is not “needed” but it is in no way a waste of a rank, 10k hp with swashbuckling a waste ? O.o

About dex, all I am saying is you should not go for crit rate over str and you also should not go for damage over con, you must remember that your only “defense” against magic damage is your healthpool (rodelero gives you an alternative here).

Do the math, crit doesn’t pay off.

just for the little prick that i guess it isnt over 260.
PD: forgot to mentions that there are still unused points.
and there’s another.

so you think you survive with 17k hp ?
snipe and cannon burst already at 18-21k already
what a nice build

even with plate stuff your hp are still too low to survive stuff in pvp

in korea that’s a lot more than the rest cause you aren’t a tank (building a tank for pvp isnt worth in korea) and in pvp leagues you have healers and buff to backup you, soo you don’t get one K’Od by a cannoner.

oh really, i played KrToS since grand open and 1 shot people many times with my cannon burst because of those low CON build

those build who easily got 1 shot always consider to be the worse
the koreans always told me to get 18k+ hp for archer, 24k+ for swordman
so i have no idea how can you be fine with 17k hp sword man

also musketeer and cannoner in every battle always the initiator due of their range and cloaking, there’s no way you can have back up at the right time or you have to pray for RNG that you can dodge or block that snipe or cannon burst

that’s a 17 flat bonus, no gear, no mastery.

Things to consider:

  • You are a melee class !!
  • Your are not the highest damage dealer !!
  • your defensives:
guard(lock you in place…) / high block rate (only good against other swords and some archer builds) / slitherring (10 seconds of imunity to magic damage) / pain barrier (great against archers/swordsmen and in ktos also provides +20% resist to status).
  • other classes defensives:
subzero shield (will kill yourself if you hit it) / safety zone (20 sec imunity to damage) / mackangdal (20sec invincibility) / sterea troph (10 sec invincibility) / camouflage ( blocks all phisycal damage ) / cloaking (stealth) / there other skills but you get what im trying to say here.

IN MY OPINION you need to have high con, leave glass cannon builds to other classes, swordsman fits better as an offensive support.

People, chill. This is just a brainstorming and theory crafting thread based on other’s experiences. No need to start a 1 on 1 argument here. I apreciate every post of course but let us not derail it. Thanks and keep on going, but peacefuly ;p.

I would think that if you took the perspective of GvG, the number paths open up extensively as it depends on your positioning, PvP is more limited towards who has the better defensive skills.
