Swordsman off-tank possible build?

Hi there!

Actually, I couldn’t play the game but I wanted to know, for those who already tested it, if one of those 2 builds could be viable for an off-tank play-style.

I’ll be playing with two friends, one cleric and one archer and so I have to take the tank spot but I don’t want to play as a full tank cause it’s not really my taste but more like an offensive tank.

I’ve read that the hoplite is kind of good in that but I kind of don’t like the style of the class and I never really loved spears.
So after messing around on the skill simulator I’ve came-up with those builds.

For the corsair build my thought is to weapon swap between sword/shield and sword/dagger.
Sword/shield for boss and dungeon and dual-wield for trash mob and grinding but I really don’t know if it’s viable XD

P.S: sorry for my english

First, don’t worry about mess your build because is a CBT.

About the builds: There’s almost no defensive buff that don’t decreases you damage in swordsman & evolutions skills (execept [Finestra]). So, basically, if you want give damage but still be able to not die easy, im sugest Peltasta’s [Shield Guard], some stats points in CON and a good timing. Because of the exception that i’m quoted, Hoplite should be the class that you need too.

Both builds seem good imo but the problem is that on the higher ranks you might run across to a heavy sp problem so you’ll need constant sp potion usage due to a large variety of skills to use. Also, your tankiness will highly depend on your stat allocation. Constitution is a stat that increases max health and health recovery rate so yeah you need to take into consideration your stat allocation early in the game and distribute it according to your preferences.

I will refrain from commenting on the Corsair build as I had no idea which skills are being considered good and which aren’t. That said, here are a few pointers for the fencer build:

Peltasta’s Guardian is a static buff, which means it will not scale very well later. The attribute, however, is good. I haven’t seen any tanks in CBT using it even, so I’d just grab 1 point to be able to get the attribute and get Rim Blow level 4.

I recommend taking some points off Cleave and getting Giant Swing on Barb. The skill is apparently very good. I am not sure about the rest.

Fencer’s Attaque Coquile debuff has a 9 second duration at level 5, meaning you can have 100% uptime on it. I’d recommend getting it up there, as ignoring pierce resist can be huge (I have seen videos where that resulted in as much as a 33% damage increase on auto attacks).

Other than that just pick what you want to experiment with. There will be plenty of time for trial and error.

Or either

To be honest, there isn’t a build that is actually “Tanky”. It actually depends on your stat investments into CON, etc. Also what equipment you’ll be using as well.

Thx all for the quick responses!

Like I said TacioDaito, I don’t want to go the hoplite way but may be I’ll change my mind and test it. As you all said it’s a CBT so why not try some builds ^^.

For the stat priority I think I’ll go 2str, 1con every even lvl and 2dex, 1 con every odd one.

I’ve taken one rank in Peltasta mostly for the provoke so I can keep aggro while partying with my friends.

I think the best it’s to wait to test it in game and see what works the best ^^.

Anyway, thank you all for your advises it’s really nice!

Welcome and good luck on your path in becoming a warrior!
