[Swordsman] If Gungho and Concentrate scaled properly

Would you consider changing your build? Would you consider going Swordsman c2/c3 for the buffs?

If they fixed these 2 buffs so that it becomes a comparable alternative to Barbarian, such that:

  • Barbarian buffs will focus on increasing your crit rate/damage.
  • Swordsman buffs will focus on increasing your physical damage.

This would, in effect, open up so many more viable builds.

One could also think about taking Swordsman c3 Barbarian c3 but that would take up and possibly exceed the 6-buff limit pretty fast, unless you plan on carrying Daino scrolls or a Krivis with you 24/7.

Exceeding the 6 buff limit? Swordie has 2 dmg buffs and barb has 4 dmg buffs. And sticking with swords and relying on auto attacks with such a build you most likely wouldn’t be using Savagery and War cry Doesn’t seem to be used much in barb builds. So most likely you would be using 4, maybe 5 buffs if you use warcry.

But yes, it would be great if the buffs had better scaling.

I was thinking for a Swordsman c3 build you’d be using Restrain as well and sometimes Pain Barrier for boss fights.
Also Warcry is good too, especially coupled with Restrain. That would take it up to 7 total (assuming using swords - no Savagery):

  • GungHo
  • Concentrate
  • Restrain
  • Aggressor
  • Flange
  • Warcry
  • (Situational) Pain Barrier

Only problem with pure AA builds is lack of burst damage that you get from skills. Some skills have been buffed pretty strong it’s hard to ignore the burst damage, eg. Cataphract’s max level doom spike giving 1812 dmg or Rodelero’s max level Targe Smash with Overheat giving 2 hits of 1342 damage each.

I hear ya, but the current AA build is very viable, especially soloing. If the buffs do scale better like you suggest then it would be a very good buff for auto attack builds, they would get even more popular. For a pure dps build, you could really get by with just 4 or 5 dmg buffs and mow through pve easily. Plus it helps that the AI sucks which helps a face roll AA build anyway.

Plus auto attack builds are sp friendly unlike like burst skill builds.

Probably, more than likely they’ll be redoing scaling entirely again anyway. It didn’t work at all to scale Heal and Aspersion, this is what it lead to:

1 guy winning all the ranking slots nearly in pvp:

His class:

He won because he was invincible. He doesn’t even need int anymore.

So don’t expect this % scaling to stick around for long.

On a side note, there are a lot of nice barbarian free builds now with the whole change to advancements and swordsman class change, as well as magic mob change.

But why buff swordsman? x.x

Coz it’s the official TOS faceroll class.

The idea is not to buff Swordsman, but to fix broken Swordsman skills that don’t scale later into the game, essentially making them worthless from level 200 onwards, which is where the majority of the gameplay is going to focus on later.

If there is concerns of a balance issue, I guess they could tone down Barbarian’s buffs a little bit more? Barbarian buffs are still much stronger than Swordsman buffs anyway and plus they don’t have negative effects, eg. defense reduction for Gungho.

How relevant does every given rank 1 class’s skills have to be at endgame, in particular swordsman and all their buffs in the sword tree?

I can view the low tier class/skills as a big part of progression for the game and the high tier class/skills where people sit on at endgame. Some low tier skills and buffs will obviously still be very viable, but I think every single skill that’s great when you get it doesn’t have to be great 300+ levels later. Higher tier skills and buffs can replace them.

I still think those buffs could be better than they are now, with or without scaling, but the higher tier classes will always have better numbers (on paper) than the lower ones. I personally wouldn’t like my Circle3 swordie buffs being on the same level than some rank 7 and 8 buffs. I also don’t see why a rank 1 class should be a comparative alternative to a rank 3 class. Who knows, people may start wanting their beloved barb buffs to be on par with the high tier hidden classes.
