Sword-Pelt-Hop-Lancer

Hello!

I’ve returned to this game after a year or so and realised I really don’t like playing Murmillo anymore. I am currently playing the Pelt3, Rod3 variant without the Shinobi class and my damage is negligible at best. It used to be fine after stacking high dex in combination with a five hammer, but now the damage just isn’t there anymore to justify this class.

Did anyone ever tried to make the following build work? I mostly tank ET, so I have to run around a lot.

Peltasta doesn’t quite match Lancer as one class is 1h + shield and the other is forced on 2h spears.

You can flip weapons but that’ll get boring very fast.

I don’t see how Pelt3 Rod3 Murmillo damage is negligible. If you get lv 315 weapons with transcedence you can destroy things even in ET. Your issue might be because you’re a DEX build and without STR or transcended weapon any (physical) class damage is really terrible.

I’m not sure if you can use 1h skill during Initiate, but I highly doubt you can. And even if you can, I wouldn’t recommend Peltasta 3 on a Lancer build…

If you want a defensive 1h spear + shield I’d recommend you going Hoplite3 -> Dragoon2 instead of Lancer. Another option is Peltasta 3 -> Fencer 3 and have rapier + shield (but no Hoplite). Lancers are hardly tanky classes even when Initiate buff is up (which allows you to block with 2h spear).

Would you be so kind to provide me with a viable PVE Murmillo build? I currently have 5 points in Headbutt from the previous era.

Heabutt is Murmillo’s strongest skill! It has many hidden skill multipliers that aren’t shown in the tooltip. You can increase the damage when wearing Cassis Crista helmet and when target is stunned.

For a PvE build I would do something like this:

https://tos.neet.tv/skill-planner#11333aaac.253555.1a3f6a7585.3f5165798a95.11344575

You can also trade Evade Thrust for Frenzied Slash which is perfectly fine (but I prefer Evade Thrust).

To have very good damage with Murmillo you need to invest in the Cassis Crista’s attributes. I would recommend getting high lvl (8+) in the Rodelero’s skills attribute first. Try to transcend your weapon and you’ll see your damage skyrocket! If you don’t have money to buy practonium weapons I recommend transcending a pevordimas sword. You can break the sword later and recover 90% of the invested gems.

That is one of the things that is really confusing me, is Headbutt +989 damage ,or +989% damage skill?
Are half of the tooltips broken and everything is % based now?

Can you take a look at this “build”, as an alternative to my previously mentioned one:
https://tos.neet.tv/skill-planner#1134447ff.253555.3545.3f4f657a.3545.152a3a55

Thank you!

It’s a percentage. Don’t worry, all skills are % now, the tooltip is just wrong.

This is my damage using Headbutt and a +11 pevordimas spear transcendence stage 4:
(Headbutt dmg attribute is only lv 20)

I would trade your 1 rank of Cataphract into Peltasta 2 or trade both peltasta ranks for Highlander 2 (more offensive build). Cata 1 is just very lackluster with no (worthy) offensive skills and Trot lv 5 is sort of disappointing. You also lose your swordman dash for going on a pet and you’re slower than unmounted dashing without Trot.

Other things to mention in your Dragoon build:

  • I’m not a big fan of Guardian. You can take it if you like, but if you already have enough defense expect Guardian to reduce the damage you take by only 5%~15%. High Guard, on the other hand, is much more useful since it gives tons of block and block doesn’t get as much diminishing returns as high defense. Hoplite 3 gives lots of block through Finestra and with High Guard you’re surely a very sturdy tank in PvE.

  • I don’t like Gae Bulg. For some reason, the mechanic of the skill feels very off. The AoE is smaller than it seems, and the fact you can’t control where your spear actually lands is kind of bothersome. The debuff doesn’t last long enough nor it’s powerful enough to make up for the annoyance of the skill. I feel like maxing Dragontooth and getting Dragon Soar lv 5 is a better trade-off.

  • Upcoming kToS patch will change Long Stride to have 3 overheats and make Pierce have a slightly better synergy with Serpentine. You might want to save your 9 points from Spear Lunge to see how those skills are after the patch (or not).

  • You won’t be mounted without cataphract, but that’s not a big deal for PvE imo.

Last question, PVE wise, would you suggest to go 3x Hop or 3x Cata? I like mobility, but I also like the crit/block rate from Hoplite, not to mention Spearthrow and Pierce Debuff.

Depends. If you want to go 2h spear I’d pick Hop2 -> Cata3 -> Lancer or Highlander 2 -> Cata 3 -> Goon1 -> Lancer.

If you want to go 1h spear + shield (without Murmillo) I’d go Highlander 2 -> Hop3 -> Dragoon 2 or Highlander 3 -> Hop2 -> Dragoon2. Switch Highlander for Peltasta if you want to be more defensive (I wouldn’t recommend Pelta 3 tho, seeing the dmg would be quite bad without Murmillo).

You can also make a Hoplite Murmillo which go together very well, but if you want to avoid Murmillos then Dragoon2 is a nice choice.

You can also try a spear variant of shinobi but I don’t have much experience with Hoplite -> Shinobi (and you’d have to do hidden quest too).

You can, of course, give up on Cata 3 for a Lancer build (going Sw3 -> Hop3 -> Goon1 -> Lancer for example) which deals considerably more dps than Cata 3. However, upcoming kToS patch that’ll buff Rush’s area, AoE atk ratio, and +30% damage while Lancer’s Initiate is up, will make Rush much more powerful and more worthwhile to pick in a Lancer build. Rush doesn’t have tons of damage but it’s still a decent AoE skill (good in dungeons and such).

EDIT:
It’s going to be very hard to have both good mobility and tankiness from hoplite. You could try a Cata 3 -> Hop 3 build… But I’m not sure how well that’d go…
