Ok so I see this crap everywhere and I want to clear this up. I realize that ToS forums is hardly the place to do it, but I play this game and idk where else to post my opinions lol. Plus I hate making new accounts.
So I always see people comparing the punch strength or whatever of different super heroes and acting like its easy to judge which is stronger based on that, which I think is pretty stupid. The most important factors are the universe that these people live in, since most of them live in far different realities. Ill give examples of what I mean in a minute in case its not obvious.
The 2nd biggest factor is the time line. The biggest trump card that superman fan boys have is their super OP future super man where he sat in the sun for like a million years (or something stupid), and charged up godly amounts of power like a giant battery. Now, I think this is pretty stupid because none of that power actually belongs to super man, as I said he simply took it from the sun. I wouldn’t count that just like I wouldn’t count Goku’s spirit bomb as being “his” power, since he barrows energy from the rest of the world/universe.
Naruto’s tailed beast energy and use of nature energy is similarly “barrowed”" energy. But the whole point of Naruto is that he gains strength from around him, unlike sasuke who typically gains it on his own. These traits were handed down from the sons of the sage of six paths, and its exactly that reliance on friendship that made the younger son (and naruto) chosen as the legacy of ninshu. In short, Naruto is actually kind of weak alone and that’s ok. Back to the main topic now.
So the fact that superman is nothing more than a mortal/solar panel hybrid aside, lets count that energy as his own. It still takes place MANY years in the future of his original timeline. So it hardly makes sense to look 50 years into Goku’s timeline and say “look, superman would beat him SO easily a million years from here”. Do you know where Goku will be at that point in his timeline? No, you don’t. And neither does any one else. The point is that its a stupid comparison.
Back to the subject of universes. The marvel and DC universes don’t often go into what happens after a person dies. I know they do at some point but its pretty rare, and death is often seen as being very final. Its supposed to, because when people die that loss is supposed to matter. The dragon ball universe does not put that same emphasis on death. Die today, revive tomarrow. Because of that, you have to assume that in a fight between the two of them, their own universes laws apply to them. Meaning that if superman dies, he pretty dead. But if Goku dies in some kind of super multiverse battle arena, hes just going to sit around for a few weeks in the afterlife and get revived by the dragon balls. He may still have “lost” the fight, but “losing” does not hold the same value.
The context of the fight also matters. Is it a friendly arena fight like I just said? Or is Goku invading supermans reality to destroy him? Because if that’s the case, he wouldn’t ever be defeated for good. And Goku’s entire premise is that every time he gets defeated he comes back stronger. Combine that with his universes easy going stance on death, and you have essentially the most over powered character you could ever have in terms of strength.
His power ups are unlocked as he gets stronger, and each is an order of magnitude stronger than the last. Since he basically cant ever be defeated for good, and he gets significantly stronger every time he gets defeated temporarily, his power potential is infinite. His power also happens to be his own. Compare that to supermans ability to just absorb sunlight and return it as strength, and it means nothing. Super mans power is not infinite, it has a power source, and that power source is limited.
Eventually every star in the universe will burn out and fade into nothingness, and superman would be useless even if he never aged. And if he ever did die, that’s that. Meanwhile goku would be a billion times the strength of God sitting in the afterlife, by which time I’m sure he could just instant transmission to any universe he wanted and destroy it by simply flexing his muscles. Such is the power of infinite potential.
But by that logic, Goku trumps all, right? Well in the past, I would have said yes. But that was until a new universe was created with new laws. That is the universe of one punch man, and its hero saitama. But how can saitama possibly be better than Goku or BatteryMan? Well if Supermans “power level” is a Trillion times a Trillion, and Goku’s “power level” is infinity, then Saitama’s “power level” is Infinity plus a trillion. I know a lot of people might read that and cringe, but in his made up universe that’s just how it is. Saitama has not been seen (so far) to have limitations since he obtained his self proclaimed hero status and his powers along with it.
The only time we’ve actually seen him pushed at all was right before his true powers awoke. Ever since then, hes defeated god level enemies with a straight face using moves like “consecutive normal punches” and “serious punch”. And we’ve been givin no reason to think that any of those even come close to his limits. What about consecutive serious punches? consecutive super serious punches? Infinite lightspeed final punches? Punches so strong that each one gives birth to a big bang in an alternate universe.
The truth is, we don’t know and it doesn’t really matter. Like I said earlier, its not about comparing punch strength or movement speed. The most important factor is the universe that the characters exist within. And the entire premise of saitama is “over powered”. Its the curse of his very existance, that he may never fight on equal terms with any one or anything, ever. He enjoys the IDEA of fighting and pushing himself to his limits just like goku, but for saitama its something that is forever limited to his dreams. This is probably the worst possible thing that could ever happen to Goku, and its something he would never wish on his worst enemies.
But ultimately, just as it is written in Gokus DNA (Dynamic Character Algorithm, JK I just made that up) that he will always get stronger from defeat, it is also written in Saitama’s DNA that he will always be so much stronger than his opponent that he can’t even consider it a challenge. That is the curse of Saitama, his very premise. It is the cornerstone of his character and the universe built around his character, more so than in any other series ever published.
MANY characters have what you might call “Plot Armor”. That is to say, the general defence of being a central character that protects them from death. But saitama’s plot armor is the strongest ever conceived. By its very nature it not only protects him from death, not only allows him to defeat his enemies, but it allows him to be so strong that no matter who his enemy is, you can basically add their strength onto his already infinite strength, forbidding him from ever coming close to the level of his opponent. That is at least, what we must conclude from what we have so far received. As all of the universes mentioned on this thread are currently ongoing, anything is still fair game for the future or past.
But as it stands currently, the only conceivable way to “defeat” Saitama would be if some one with the power of time travel went back in time and killed him before his powers awoke. But that would only be killing Saitama the man, not Saitama the one punch man. I wouldn’t count that any more than I would count killing supermans mom before he was born. Its also impossible to say how that would actually go in the One Punch Man universe, for all we know Saitama would just punch a hole through time and ask the bad guy “wutcha doin?”
So there you go, consider this debate forever settled. You’re welcome world
