[Suggestion] VIP Server

Hello,

Long time player of official RO servers and looking forward to TOS. CBT2 is going well for me. I would like to recommend the possibility of having 1 server that is behind a pay-wall. It could be as simple as $5/month, but this will allow people who want to be in a server of like-minded people who are willing to pay for their experience to enjoy the game free of all the issues that tackle free-to-play servers.

This will enable the GMs to ban bots and have it actually mean something, since they can’t just make another account and bypass the offense. Perhaps give the VIP server players a slight discount on iCoin items as compensation. I think this would help with revenue and fill a gap in your player-base.

Thank you for your consideration.

I completely support this. Doesn’t seems like much, but actually filters out a LOT of noise.

I like this idea. It might also keep them from having to make p2w items to make money.

What about people who want to play with friends who don’t want to pay? Any solution to suggest in that case?

This case came up a lot in iRO before it went completely free to play. In all of the instances I have memory of, the players would play with their non-VIP friends on a separate character and interact just fine. When their friends logged out/they had stuff to do/got bored of the game, they would return to their normal characters that they were paying to have.

This sort of thing isn’t meant to keep friends from playing from one another. It could be as simple as a VIP account holder can make VIP characters on non-VIP servers, but it would definitely be a way to separate those willing to contribute from those that just want to “play the game”.

Well, that is an interesting dilemma. I guess thinking outside the box on that one would be necessary.

You could have a group-rate discount, i.e. $5/month for 1 player, $8/month for 2 players. In most cases, those who are willing to pay have friends who are also willing to pay.

I support this! 5-10 bucks a month would be ideal.

So basically… you can’t really play the game as you wish if you don’t pay? Isn’t it in contradiction with the definition of free to play as advertised by IMC? How do you think they would announce that?

Ps: Personnally I’m willing to pay for this game, but I respect those who don’t. I don’t want another “fake F2P MMORPG” where those who pay are systematically advantaged.

I remember when I first heard about this game.
I had my wallet ready and was willing to pay 15$ a month.
I entirely support the idea for vip servers and I really hope they consider it.

If there’s no cash shop.

Right now, we’re talking about something as simple as having a server that those who aren’t VIP members cannot log in to. This way, people are able to separate themselves from those that wish to play the game for free. In all, I don’t think that this is that bad, especially because of the amount of trolls online as-is.

It’s much better than games like… Eden Eternal per se, where you need to actively participate in the cash-shop buying in order to attain a +14 weapon in order to be able to continue leveling/playing past a certain point.

This game has great potential, and if we have methods to support it that aren’t blatent “Cash Shop” rewards, I’m more than willing to suggest things that allow IMC to obtain funds without making it

I guess the question is does a different server with a pay-wall somehow hurt the other servers that free-to-play? My feeling is that it doesn’t and people would pick the one they want and stick to it.

Friends would either both play on VIP or both play on free-to-play.

All having a pay-walled server would do is give people who are willing to pay monthly a way to show their support and be rewarded for it.

Having a P2P VIP server is going to make the players on that server feel entitled to more GM attention than the F2P server.

So, what happens when bots infiltrate the P2P server? Players of that server are going to complain that the GMs are spending too much time managing and banning bots on the F2P server and don’t care about the P2P server. The reality is that both servers will have bots.

Banning bots also rarely “actually means something”. Depending on when in the month the bot gets banned, it will cost between $0-$5. At which point they make a new bot for another $5. Unless the GMs are banning your bots on a weekly basis, botters will just be paying up to $15 or so a month instead of $5.

Aye, but in a very bleh twist, this also means that IMC will have better funding for GM management for the servers. The more people they have available to deal with these types of players, the better quality of life that we’ll all have in the end, no?

Question, why pay for what is already there for free?

You are assuming that the P2P server will produce greater profits than the F2P server, which may not necessarily be the case since the F2P server will most likely have a much higher population.

I don’t have any statistics on which of those models is actually more profitable, but with more games moving from P2P -> F2P I assume F2P is more profitable (I personally am probably going to be spending >$5 a month on this game whether it is P2P or F2P).

I’m not saying that there should only be a P2P server or only a F2P server. The original suggestion was to add a P2P server so that those willing to fork over $5 a month would be able to play with a like-minded community as a way to gain some revenue.

I will admit that there are a lot of P2P games turning over to the F2P model, however, but what they’re doing to earn funds afterwards is something I would never wish upon ToS, and that would be allowing the “Premium Members” to play in the same space as the “Normal Members”, all the while providing the Premium Members definite, visible benefits. I don’t agree with the idea that spending money should alleviate me from playing the game. I like the way that it’s set up (though as I’m sure you’ve noticed today that I have more than a handful of suggestions), but if there are any options to make people feel better about the crowd they play with, I’m all for it if it in turn helps the community flourish as well.

My comment was made under the assumption that you were saying that there would be bots on the P2P servers as well, meaning that someone would be spending money on the game but if they got banned, would have to continously reapply for VIP status because of bot termination and breaking the Terms of Service (if and when that gets addressed).

Ah, I see what you were saying. I was thinking the same thing as I was writing that. More bots = more money to get rid of bots :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Triple /20char Bingo

**Edit:**If they want to bot in the P2P server, go for it. IMC’s going to have to do something so that they can afford servers (at this point, better servers). If that means that people want to pump up their wallets by being silly enough to get themselves banned numerous times, let 'em have at it

Vip server for 12,99euro a month and im in !
Or they could add vip status to the account and you can switch to channels where only vip members can access.
Would solve the problem to seperate the vip players from the normal one,so they still can play togehter if they whant to.
