I think the maps need to be re-done in this game entirely. It sounds like a lot and I’m not trying to be a jerk either but they feel way too small and narrow, it doesn’t give much feel of adventure and exploration. I really feel confined. Also providing alternate leveling areas from the get go should be implemented as well, I feel the class NPCs shouldn’t be in one hub place. Have them scattered in different places to promote exploration.
I like your suggestion~ a linear progression can be a bit boring in a while.
But I think it’s better if they implement your suggestion after the game goes live. In that way, people still have something to look forward to later on. Plus the devs can’t possible create new maps and quests when their priority now is fixing the bugs.
People acting like RO was so fleshed out in its alpha and beta, lol.
Preach.
I don’t think this is just RO nostalgia, rather common sense.
I mean I made my second character yeasterday and I’m already bored with it; to be honest with you I can’t even think about doing the same exact quests every damn time I want to make a new char. it’s just tedious and lazy.
right now it feels like a waste of time. If I want a nice RPG with a linear progression I’ll play skyrim or what have you. I’m here for the MMO part. I’m here for the community, not for a half-assed, story line.
Don’t get me wrong, I think the plot and storytelling have some nice hooks, there’s definitely potential in it, but it’s nothing new and I don’t feel the least involved. It got to a point were it feels like a chore more then entratainment.
I hate comparing this game with RO, but in RO we had so much more liberty for leveling. ToS is the same as RO , both have the focus in the journey for max level and we are going to need to grind for achieving this. The problem is that in ToS we don’t have map variety for leveling, we have some nice mechanics like weapon attack weakeness and elementary attacks, but the game doesn’t make people explore these mechanics. It would be so much better or at least less repetitive if we had mutiple maps with the same level range but one that have monsters weak to pierce, others with slash, others with weakness to ice, and fire, and much more. Not to mention that in RO we had the card system that made you revist and sometimes focus in leveling there because of the loot that would help you in late game or give you profit. Here I haven’t seen a map witch their loots would be important late game, so no need to be back.
I hope the devs read this. I feel the areas are so linear they don’t feel special at all… each area is just another “map” to get through to advance my quest.
I do like the idea. GW2 is somewhat like this and it really made me want to create one character of every race. I really enjoy the fact that every character starts in an area with different quests (I enjoy doing quests) and we can also do quests from other starting areas. I don’t really like the fact that everyone goes through the same route because it makes the characters lack any singularity, they have no personality at all, with exception of the class choices.
I don’t think ToS is supposed to be like that though, and I also think that it is already late to make some types of changes like different starting areas or changing the story.
I also think that there are pros in the current setting and some of your ideas wouldn’t make sense. There are also some things that maybe would be good to see:
- One main city is nice for trading items
- Other than different servers, we also have different channels based on the map’s demand, so I don’t think there would be a problem with decongesting the map
- It doesn’t make any sense to have a city with only priests, don’t you think? I have never seen a city that only has churches. A society works from different types of jobs, there must be people who can work with every single need of a town for it to work properly. So every type of job is welcomed for the environment to be in harmony. It works great on the example I’ve given (GW2) because the starting areas are separated by races and they have no class restrictions, you can have any class for any race.
- I think that the classes’ masters should be better organized throughout the maps, they are too spread out, and their locations doesn’t even make any sense, sometimes.
- I think that some quests where you need to make choices other than “which weapon do you want as a reward?” and this kind of stuff would be great, and even better if it made our characters have some personality.
- The main quest should be linear, of course, because it is something that is happening for everybody.
- I hope that there are some events (I’m pretty sure there will be) on special dates, like halloween and christimas where the maps changes thematically and you can have some special, maybe limited items, and also some themed quests
- It would be nice if we had a changing environment: day/night, seasons, some random events like a house got on fire, some mobs invaded the city, idk… this type of thing that would make the game less of the same thing everyday.
- Yet on the random events thing. It would be nice to have some random quests or bosses that you cannot activate whenever you want, with some good rewards. Or even some special events that happens only during a certain hour for example.
- I’m hoping to see new clothes other than job clothes.
- Some more cutscenes would be great <3
Right now the game for sure is very linear with no unexpected news, with a bunch of kawaii desu characters that are only cute and lacks personality. I have the feeling that the thing here is: be cute, build classes, drop stuff, craft stuff, achieve stuff, level up, grind stuff, and the story is just a small addition. I would really like to see the story progressing and the maps having significant changes with it, for example. I would like my character to have some personality. I would like new things to happen besides the achievements.
Yeah, i don’t really like the way you ‘start’ the game either. It’s all the same. I got bored this weekend already. If there’s a thing that RO did right, is the different Towns for each class. Since ToS has only 4 (initial) classes, it’s not THAT hard to make 4 different towns. Klaipeda for Clerics, Zunya for Mages, Igrima for Archers and Lazuli for Swordsman. (Not official names, just made up). I don’t think the MAIN story-line questing is a problem tho, since it covers all the nations and people in the ToS world, BUT, I do agree that it’s kinda boring doing the same step over and over again when you create a new character. There’s no problem at all for everyone start in the same training zone, the East Siauliai Woods near klaipeda, but when you get to klaipeda, the game should direct the player to different zones, idk, just an idea… Anyways, totally agree with OP in that one. Despite that, the game is really cool and entertaining.
to bump and to quote
“but why couldn’t they learn from failed games ?”
+1
Mostly because of linear quests and quest markers…
“Find ABC” and then Coordinates for ABC is already given… not much of a find.
Unfortunately Friend list was broken for both betas, also party chat + whisper chat were broken. At one point even shout was broken. Not sure how to build a community that way lol.
Well, i now lvl 62, i just on the begin, at least i have seen maps from 1 to 500+/-, if i compare this to other MMO with MaxLvL of 100, i lvl 10+/-, this game is big, only playing to see all maps, all content the IMC as chosen to show us, i really would like to see more places early, but i just have seen i little peek of this mountain, leveling is easy, the grinding is not the best option i agreed, but i still in love with this game, tree of savior its nostalgic for me. Sorry the english! =]
