[SUGGESTION] Rune Caster skill changes

So, as it is Rune Caster is coming out pretty bad when compared to other classes, my suggestion is to buff a little the class, not changing skill effects, but maybe making some changes like, for example:

  • Making the cast of runes unstoppable without Surespell: This problem is huge for anyone who aims for RC, you can’t make it very useful in a crowded situation as all skills have huge casting time, giving an attribute to RC skills to make their cast not stoppable (except knockback, stun, etc. cases) would really make the class shine and would not be too extreme for other classes to handle.

  • Please feel free to make more suggestions, I don’t like the way wizzards are being built where Ele 3 is the only really good DPS way to go and believe many others who likes the class think the same way. Rune Caster seems to be the alternative to go more for the Ice Side and very different sort of gameplay.

  • A skill that lets you precast your runes (similar to Pardoner?), which would end up being similar to Ragnarok’s Rune System, keeping the skills enormous cooldows. I find this option very nice, but the skill should be for the first Circle, as it would be for personal use and untradable, it would be a vital skill for the class to be USABLE in the first circle (still requires huge class combination).

  • Make their casts really castable (each have their own, also 8 seconds is just too much honestly) , Wizz3 right now is the only thing that makes RC playable, even elementalists can go pyro or other stuff, it goes completely against the idea of diversification from ToS.

  • Make a skill that shortens runes casts, though I don’t really think they will make a skill like this, maybe a cast shorter rune or something like that, though we still are not even sure if there will really be upper ranks for hidden classes (some or all), and also believe this would have to be a C1 rune

PS.: I’m not sure if it’s still possible for a suggestion on skill changes to still be accepted but I believe many skills will still be nerfed/buffed, so I believe this is a viable thread.

I think if IMC were to go this route, they would have to re-work Wiz C3 because currently Surespell and Quickcast are the only reasons to go Wiz C3.

This suggestion is based on the fact that Rune Caster has 8 seconds cast time in all his skills, no other has has such feature.

And most people only take Wiz C2/C3 when they are planning on also taking Ele or Rune Caster because of those long cast times. Your proposed change will be removing one of the very few reasons to take Wiz C2/C3.

Rune Caster pretty much requires Wiz C3 right now. I see it kind of like Chaplain (which requires Priest C3), only with Rune Caster you are given a little more freedom in your class choices (if you want to gimp yourself for some reason).

They should simply power up their skills so that you actually feel the insane cast time and cooldowns are actually deserved.
Tiwaz would probably win a contest of worst skill in the entire game.

I was going to wait until I actually got to play it until I complained, but Rune Caster is just. bad. A class that lots of people consider only worth taking for a buff is probably not a very good class, especially at rank 6.

I don’t want to ruin the core concept of the class but it’s not p- ok here’s a video of tiwaz. it’s so damn bad HAHA. It’s like a terrible version of energy blast that is worse in quite literally every way possible. So that leaves Destruction/Hagalaz as the only viable attack skill, and even then, from what I’ve seen, very few people bother even trying to cast it once because it’s so impractical to pull off, and its bounce mechanic isn’t reliable. Giants is a fun niche skill, but not really combat efficient, and I honestly wonder how useful Protection is outside of PvP. It can’t be a panic skill since it has such a long cast time and etc., but it has the long cooldown and, relative to that, a short duration like a panic skill. What exactly is the point of having 50% status immunity if its extremely difficult to time the cast properly, and is inconsistent? (though to be honest, I could just be overreacting here since I actually haven’t tried it myself heh)

suggestions are: either lower the cast and cd time of Justice/Tiwaz considerably, or buff its damage. And second, I don’t know if this is even possible, but allow movement while casting for Rune Caster. This way, Wiz 2/3 is still perfectly viable, but RC as a whole is less painfully impractical and can stand by itself as a class as much as any other class. I don’t think that even works with the mechanics of the game though oops.

Maybe at C2 they should add something like stone engraving ability. U precast rune spell, so next time u cast it will be skillLVL7.5% faster casting of that rune spell+ skillLVL1 for max number of pre-casted spells + Max 2 of the same rune spell can be pre-casted.

Or make it like Pardoner; you can pre-cast your runes which consumes your rune in your inventory and marks it as consumed by that skill. Then the next time you cast the spell instead of consuming any old rune it will immediately consume the pre-cast one and skip the casting time entirely. Mark the pre-cast runes as unable to be traded and have, say, a maximum of 5 pre-casts types in your inventory.

That way the spell is still required to go on cool-down, still required to be fully cast at some point, you won’t be able to hoard and pre-cast all day with a cap of 5, and you can’t market them as a Pardoner could.

Just, in short, you can skip the casting time and not need Sure Spell for a few casts which makes the class more stand-alone but also doesn’t detract from C2/3 Wiz trees. Basically the same idea you posted but with just eliminating the casting time (instead of… max 37% faster, shaving off like 3 seconds) and just giving a flat value of stones you can have XD Either way, I agree, pre-cast sounds like a neat function for the class and it’d fit.

I will be editing this topic with ideas from replies when possible, I would really like to make this something importante, because Rune caster really feels like a class that has potential, but wasn’t well thought, all of it’s skills have enormous cooldowns and 8 seconds cast time, 1 is the worst skill on the game, 1 is a buff not as good as the one from plague doctor, 1 is a buff only for tankers, and not even that good, 1 is a buff that makes a 1 minute-cooldown-combo hits a lot but doesn’t make other ice skills that huge and doesn’t last enough for the combo to go over it’s cooldown, 1 is actually a good damage skill (at least I think so) that has a damage close to meteor (cast time skill seems too big, you can just go level 1 meteor anyway.

Bumping because I got the class, and it’s more or less exactly how I imagined it.

The burst damage on Destruction is great, but it is so impractical to pull off. Giants is. as niche as I expected, and made for a lot of fun, except it was all in town.

Another thing: please lower the price of rune stones. You need them for every skill, and it’s really a huge pain to restock them constantly for 500 a pop. I understand the need for silver sinks, but please don’t put one on an absolute necessity for a class.

Well, about the rune price, it’s to be expected, many classes in ToS have item usage, Necromancers and Priests also have to spend money for every single skill they pull off.

I just think RC should not have 8 seconds cast time for all skills.

no, I’m wizard c2 only by Surespell + Rune Caster, would ruin my whole build

Taking Wiz 2 and not Wiz 3 already means your build is ruined, for ONE more rank your Ice Shards would do +50% damage.

Wiz 3 is not necessary for my build I have other options that’s the magic of this game.

Sorry to revive an old post. But I hope IMC can buff or revamp something on RC. The concept is cool but it is really bad in practical use.

A better alternative would be giving Runecaster another passive ability similar to their Quickcast one, but this time with Surecast. So at max attribute you would have 50% of casting Surecast everytime you used a Runecaster spell.

I think that would be very interesting and fits the of skills already given to the Rune Caster.

I really hope they’d make a change so that rune of ice would affect frost cloud and hail, I get it warlock’s supposed to be the strongest mage hurrdurr but like the rune of ice got 3 minutes cd like is that not enough reason to be weak? smh
the other skills are ok Iguess…

Frost Cloud is OP enough without Rune of Ice, actualy you’re asking them to buff the most overpowered class in the game.

In a second a learn how to master their Giant power!

Kinda funny. But more annoying to know what happening around you.
Also it don’t affect other player at this point (Other could see me in a x2 giant then normal/giant after this point)

the only wish of the Rune Caster Skill update is the " Rune -of - ICE "
effect like what it suppose to be on all type of ICE- property attack .
not only for Cryomancer . but Ele as well.

is it any way to let GM or ony one that resposible for this to know about this wish?
