[Suggestion] Option to hide surname

As the title says, the idea of surnames in games is just so… indescribably weird and a little pointless. When I was first introduced to surnames in FF14ARR, I had a really bad time making a surname for my character.
From either creating a fun surname from your favorite anime/cartoon/TV series character to creating a surname from your own last name, but then someone takes it as their own, leaving you no choice but to make you create an original last name like “AngelBane” or something edgy like that.

As far as I can tell from launch, a lot of players here were under the assumption that surnames or “Team names” wasn’t anything to worry about, but end up making a surname that’s either the same as their character name or something made up out of the blue. Example: Lillith TeamRed, oops, I didn’t know my “team name” was going to show…should have picked something else".

So I propose to the developers to make an option in the settings that will enable you to hide your own surname in-game from sight of other players, including yourself of course. To put simply, prefer people calling you by your character name.

There is an option for hiding first names but not for surnames?

I cannot stress this enough as it is. Especially when I really wanted an awesome surname that I had in mind as soon as the servers came up(this includes my own user name that you see now)… but I couldn’t make it due to an unfortunate random disaster which cost me to be late.

Hope you can see where I’m coming from.

in cbt i had this problem. as every game previous to this game ive been known as gameseasy… as in this game is fuckin easy… and i made my char names games and my team name easy… and everytime i would world shout i was seen as easy, when i thought i would be seen as games … i was ok with being known as games. but god damnit. i did not want to be known as easy… then some kid stole my intented teamname come obt… so ya… i feel ya

Huh. Not sure how this suggestion was bumped, but I still appreciate your feedback and like.

They should at least lower the TP price of changing team names, I know there are people out there that are compulsively indecisive and will end up spending money for something that is obviously milking the consumer.

and like you said… my main is double named… so yah thats annoying as all hell.

use show only team name option in settings and problem solved.

problem only solved for you. not others that read double name.

changing player side but not client side doesnt solve anything. I could graphically be thomas the train, but everyone still sees my shitty avatar.

i wish you could just opt out of 2 names. ive never liked them in video games. just give us one name with the option to add a space. i see no point in having a family name. i dont want all of my characters to be linked. really does away with 1 of my chars being an evil troll and the other a good little “ill send pics” girl…
