[Suggestion] Linear progression... PLEASE DONT!

RPG= Role playing game= U playing the role of a character in the game which = to u not being anything u want

Imo all mmorpgs are like single player games they just make it so that u can play with more people and have things to do together

other than that the suggestions aren’t to bad

Great post!!! we need more input like this
we really need a complete rework on the content… the game feels alittle like a themepark MMO… and that’s bad… really really bad

I am personally conflicted about this…

at one end, I like the novice splitting up to level, it also made the world bigger. Traveling to meet your friends was perhaps an unforgettable experience. I still remember getting kill on the way trying to reach my friend back in RO, and getting high level to help me while I was being chased.

on the other end, I have friends who would want to level together at the start

then there is the super novice class, though i personally don’t care for, it is fun to see

you know what? after thinking more, novice class splitting up definitely was more interesting. I don’t have much memory of Aion, tera or any other mmo in the starting zone. Only RO.

I also remember friend bidding each other fair well until we meet again after choosing the first class… it was definitely more of an adventure.

No. They should be social oriented, and that’s sad because the people don’t realize that.

As MMOs become more like movies we’ve become spectators instead of participants.

Current MMORPG mechanics have done much to destroy the need for
socialization. The ability to easily solo to the level cap in most
MMORPGs and the ability to organize groups and fight more powerful
adversaries without using any social interaction skills via features
such as World of Warcraft’s Dungeon Finder have created this problem.
This kind of design ethos that places player convenience over mechanics
that promote player interdependency is misguided and bad for the
long-term health of the MMO and the industry. The result is that content
is less challenging, consumed far too fast and rewards are given far
too frequently.

If there is one feature that separates the single player video game from
a MMORPG it is social interaction. Social interaction is the unique
feature that differentiates MMORPGs from single player RPGs as social
interaction is impossible in a single-player RPG. Yet too often the
importance of social interaction is ignored by developers in favor of
more quantifiable things such as combat, animations, artwork and game
mechanics. It is a tragedy that the greatest asset of MMORPGs has been
forgotten and under developed.

There is a epidemic in MMOs right now that I call the silence of the guilds. The state of socialization has gotten so dire in MMORPGs like WoW, that in the last few years I have noticed in that chat activity within a guild during non-raid times is the exception rather than the rule.

I support this topic. I’ve told on this forum hundreds of times, telling again. The same doesn’t need to be linear to be a mmo.
There are tons of good old games that are totally free to explore. Why does a new game has to be linear ?

yea but put to much socialization and the game becomes to party dependent not every one likes to party and u shouldnt need a party to hit cap as u said it should have a choice. forcing a player to either solo or party is a bad thing i should have my choice if i want to solo to cap or party to cap.A party should only be needed for things like dungeons or bosses and grinding if u choose to grind in a party

Most of the things you mentioned are already set in stone at this point, how a game progresses is something you think about at the drawing boards not when you already have a working version of the game.

Considering that the starting area in RO has access to all the first job class starts in one building you won’t see classes splitting up to go their separate ways in that game anymore. Not till 2nd job. Considering that the general level grinding areas are all basically universal bar a couple of classes.

Actually, the tutorial area changed a lot from what I remember it last. Used to be the garden had all of the mobs for the novice quests and all of the trainers. You would go and talk to some NPCs before entering the Garden which would explain the non combat side of things, then you enter the garden and you could talk to the trainers and even try the class out a bit before you commit to it. Those trainers would also direct you to the area you need to go to for your job change when you were ready.

All the stuff combat related in one small zone, sure you had to compete with other newbies for mob kills but the entire tutorial was done in only a few minutes because of how compressed it was.

And honestly if this is supposed to be a social MMO… why do you want to force everyone to start split up right off the bat? Splitting people up right off the bat, especially when we know that megas will not be so cheap when the game gets rolling, would only lead to people thinking that there is not enough population for the game and feeling very empty. Causing them to leave.

People should be splitting up after they have found a party when they got numerous fields or dungeons they have access to so they can farm the mobs they are most effective against. Branching out from the hub city.

Hell if they wanted to they could put class masters with special skills locked behind challenges hidden in places suiting the class itself scattered around the world, can even have unique attributes you can only get from those masters. Yet still keep the class trainers who get you started in a centralized area so that newbies are not being forced to split up from people who could help them.

Have you ever played any rpg on your life? like a real RPG with paper and stuffs? RPG is meant to you to be anything that you want! Of course it has limits but you need to feel like you have the choice! If I want to be in a movie I would see one! If I want to be “social” i go to a pub with my friends xD and @TankHunter678 Wtf is this rag that you played? xD if its renewal IT SUCKS!!! lol Go play an epi 4.0 and you will see how the things were! the good old and gold times =D

Good one! Though I do not agree with a novice class. Don’t need it. You can be a novice while being a swordsman, archer, etc.

Also free for all PVP is good but don’t remove the 5v5 PVP. Team PVP is also enjoyable.

Well, i was talking about socialization (possible interactions between players) not the party system wich is poor on ToS right now (CBT).

NO For Novice Class but

Different Class Having Different Starting City Would Be Nice or Few Class Change are on This City and others are on This City, Not Even a City just a Map even with Monster but make it somewhat City Friendly,
A,K,A Orc Dungeon

10 hours… >_>

It’s interesting to see so many conflicting opinions on what kind of “rpg” people want to play. What I think it boils down to is what is more appealing to the masses from a production stand point. So for all you non-linear sandbox be free players you are out of luck. @freeman you can chill with your terrible meme posting.

Yeah, is a grindy video hahahaha.

@GamingWithGB i’m grinding the forum, shhhh…

You’re grinding everyone’s patience down.

It’s annoying, but it isn’t against the forums (from what I know) so we don’t have a say in it.

yes i have played many rpgs only few rpgs allow u to actually have diversity in wat u want to do like kingdom of amunlar but ToS is not like that

lol hows kingdom of amalur doing…google that company
