Steam controller not working as a controller

Hi, I’ve used my Steam controller few times before and it worked fine. Now it only works as a mouse, can’t use skills and the normal gamepad interface. I think this has something to do with the latest UI update.

Can anyone help me please?

Yes, I’ve tried running as admin

Change the controller mode from Auto to Controller/Joystick, if it still persist send them a ticket.

Yup nothing happens. Okay, will do, thanks!

Just in case,
Are you sure that you didn’t enabled the UI mode in ToS?

What do you mean exactly? That I’m not using keyboard and mouse options? Nope.

I’m actually alternating between another controller but it’s kinda dying on me so I need to use my Steam controller. The other controller works fine as it is (I’ve been using it since forever)

Like when you accidentally press R1+Start …
that will happen, your hotkey buttons will be disabled, and your stick will become a mouse.

This, or when you disable steam overlay (which also make your steam controller go haywire)

*I didn’t use keyboard nor mouse as well

this is what shows up for me, any idea on how to fix it?

But it says here…

that it’s enabled

wow …that’s weird
from the look of things …its more of steam problem rather than tos
since …in that page itself it already said steam overlay is disabled when its not
…better try asking steam support?
I never had that problem

Oh okay, thanks. Sent a ticket to Steam along with the screenshots.

Is your Steam controller working fine as it is? Weird because I never had this problem before.

My logitech is kinda dying and my dualshock 3 is not compatible I think.

I don’t think I’ll ever learn to play this game on a mouse and keyboard :disappointed:

Hi @Feelstasta

Do you have a configuration setup? (Manage Game > Controller Configuration)

I don’t have anything special setup as my config. Just the default Gamepad one (Browse Configs > Templates > Gamepad)

It looks like there’s a few community configs you can try too.

Steam Controller working fine over here, but I actually use xBox controller instead (prefer it). If I can help test anything at my side, feel free to poke me.

My steam controller works fine with tos, but I didn’t like using it lol. What I normally use for ToS now is ds4.

Nope, this is what my configs show

Recently tried fix that was given to me by support:

  1. In Steam, click on “Steam” in the upper left, then choose the “Settings” menu. (Preferences on Mac)
  2. On the “Account” tab under “Beta Participation” click the “Change…” button.
  3. Select the desired beta test from the “Beta Participation” drop down list and click “OK”.
  4. You will be prompted to restart Steam, please select the “Restart Steam” button.

Nothing good so far. Thanks for everyone taking time to help out btw

On that controller configuration screen, have your tried;

  • Select ‘Templates’
  • Select ‘Gamepad’ from the list.
  • select ‘Apply Configuration’ at the bottom of the screen.

This seems to be what the warning is indicating when on the game page, i.e. you need to select and apply a configuration in order to use the Steam Controller for the game.

You shouldn’t really have to do this – I think there should be some default config already active on the controller. But it might be worth trying the above just in case something has happened to the default setup.

Turns out that wasn’t the problem, this was:

I had the “Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game” ticked off (no idea why and how).

Thanks to everyone who helped me!

Also, any good key bindings for Steam controller? I just remembered how hard it is because the R1 L1 buttons are so hard and spaced apart for 2 fingers.
