Squire Build opinion

Hi, I’m super hyped to play TOS being a vet RO player like many of you. I’m looking to play something tanky with decent AoE DPS (not hit like a noodle) in case I do have to solo grind at some point. I won’t have any RL friends joining me in TOS but with party buffs and tank capabilities I assume I should find a party no problem, I enjoying being social in MMO’s.

EDIT: So after alot of research i’ve come up with these 2 builds for my squire (i’d like feedback). Both builds would most likely be with Str main stat, 40 Con and 25 Dex for carrying weight/dmg and enough con to take a hit and enough dex to hit stuff. Both builds got squire buffs and benefits. I don’t go for arrest because i don’t like being held in place and think people should be able to dodge themselves, if they cant our healer will take care of it.

1st option here is looking like the option i’ll go with

Tanky Dps Field Squire

  • Tanky dps version goes with Sword>pelt>hopliteC2>SquireC2. Basically im figuring this build will contribute a more dps aggro role. Basically thinking use swash buckling to aggro mobs to me, stabbing the mob down, keep my buffs on for a little defense with +block % via finestra and when i get a big baddy i got Pierce for high spike dmg. also finestra will allow me to go str build very easily because crit +

Tank Field Squire

  • This one is alot more tanky. Basically just swash buckling to aggro mob, high guard for more block, block for procs for 250% dmg with Umbo. Got the standard 15 in guardian for physical defense buff. Not as much base damage but the 250% modifier may make this strong enough to solo a bit and contribute in a group.

TLDR: Want a squire cause I like social interaction, will either of these builds get me there without going insane?
Thanks for reading, hope your having a good day

Alchemist basically can make better potions than other players, can upgrade gems, combine two items to create an item that could be strong or worse, use alchemy to take stuff and literally form it into something else, Item Awakening allows a weapon to upgrade and be better if you do it’s weapon dungeon whatever.

If you go Sword 1, Peltasta 3, you don’t go make AoE Damage.
Peltasta is more Tanky.
If you want to do Damage and be offtank you could go Sword1 > Peltasta1 > Hoplite 1 or 2 > Rodelero 1 (If you go only for Hoplite 1) > Squire.

I would prefer:

  1. Swordsman > Peltasta > Hoplite > Hoplite > Squire > Squire
  2. Swordsman > Peltasta > Hoplite > Cataphract > Squire > Squire

With the first one u will be very independent and still useful when playing with others. With the second one, you can have all damage types (like on the first one), pretty decent AoE, mobility… But Arrest can be only used dismounted.

question. Can you use cataphract skills or even mount once u converted to squire? cuz to use cataphract skills u need to be mounted, so if u cant, then what purpose would it be to get cata?

I’m following the 2. And as I said, u can’t use Arrest only. All previous skills can be used while mounting. (Mount is a attribute, if learned u can mount even if u are a Squire.)

Not big deal for me, really. Arrest is more for Bosses…

So that 2nd one would be a tanky 2Handed spear wielding AoE monster I assume? Where I haven’t played TOS yet I have a few questions regarding your cataphract option…

  1. Can you use any of the skills in Peltasta, Hoplite or even swordsman when your wielding a 2 handed spear? or do you wield a 1 handed spear + shield with Cataphract?

  2. How is the mount riding? I used to play RO and when I played Knight class I hated riding on mount. I honestly liked the Crusader more with his shield/sword combo, looked so intimidating.

  3. This one is regarding your first option with c2 hoplite…is it a big difference in solo AoE farming?

  4. Simple question about squire itself, Is the c2 squire worth getting? you get some decent buffs but i hear camp has a 6 HOURS cooldown. With that cooldown I may use it once every time I play…is it worth grinding levels to get to squire c2 to just use a skill once per playtime?

Thanks for all the info. Sorry for the questions but It’s rare for me to have access to someone who actually followed a squire path to talk to

yo friend
u dont need squire to interact with ppl, there are tons of suport classes (like cleric ones) that help with that, but i dont think u will have problems even if u are going dps.

  1. check the ToS base simulator, when u see the skills u see the weapons u can use it with, if theres nothing there so u can use with all weapons.

2)i dont really know what skils u can use with mount

  1. i wouldnt recomend hoplite for squire, cus its a class that worth going c3 (i think). for me squire need to go peltasta c3 (if want tank) or highlander c3 (if want dmg)

  2. these skils u will use while grinding with a party, i dont think u should go squire if u are not going for c3. the tent makes the bufs last longer (and i think it adds a teleport point too), and the food is nice too.

i made 2 squire builds one for more dps (can solo better)

and this one for tanky build (u can still solo, but it allows ur party to have 1+ dps and u tank)

Thanks for the builds. Tbh I’m really struggling with the whole 6 hour CD on squire camp. I feel like if I play squire i’ll always ask myself “is camp worth using now? Maybe I should wait” and never using it in fear of not having it at a more opportune time. I feel like I may have to look at some other classes now for this simple but crucial reason. Seems like everyone and their mother is going cleric but if I did go cleric Paladin is probably where i’d end up because I loved playing crusader in Ragnarok. I really dont like how i see all clerics classes using maces though. I don’t see a weapon requirement on the skills, can you use sword + shield?

maces give u magic atack too, so its the way to go for clerics
about the tent skill, u will use it when u and your pt choose to stay in one place grinding for a long time, u wont use it alone
i will play dps swordman (peltasta>hoplitec3>doppel), but monks, sadhu and wugushi are awesome too, there are druids and oracles and dievb too. chose the class u like, dont worry about other things, u will need to grind a long time so its better play with something u like

No, I’m a Spear + Shield user. ToS allows players to swap weapons during battles, but I see no need in 2H Spears right now since my damage is nice already. (I intend to do it on the next Beta, though.)

  1. Yes, I can use all Swordsman, Peltasta and Hoplite skills while using Spear + Shield or 2H Spear (and riding).

  2. I don’t get this question… It’s so vague… Well, riding is a attribute, a passive skill. All players can have companions, but we Catas can ride and receive HP, DEF, and evasion bonus depending on the companion stats. I can use all combat skills as I said, except Arrest (and I’m fine with it, since it’s Boss stuff).

  3. Yes and no. Tbh, Earth Wave was the only offensive skill I invested money cuz the initial damage was nice and it’s a strike damage (+Earth if attribute is ON). But the truth is that I only chose Cata instead of Hoplite C2 cuz I wanted to see riding in action (AND I HAVE NO REGRETS, chase runaway wizards on PvP is a must too).

  4. Well, maybe you’re seeing this the wrong way. There are many skills that have high CD, but the duration is about the same or even higher than CD. For Base Camp, the duration at level 5 is 3:30. This means that with a supposed Squire C3, the duration at level 10 would be exactly 6 hours. Although I personally don’t see problems with C2, it’s up to you. (Grinding all day? No, thanks.)

you’ve given me lots to think about for sure…Wondering if you think this build would work out well for a sorta off-tank/support build with AoE farming in mind for solo. i’m thinking something like this: http://www.tosbase.com/tools/skill-simulator/build/d0355e34fg/

Any suggestions on skills/stat allocation? Figuring i’d go mounted with spear/shield. I’m just not sure how great my damage or tanking ability would be with lvl 5 skills as i’d only be C1 in every class.

Looks +/- like my test build: http://www.tosbase.com/tools/skill-simulator/build/jl1m8jh7qm/

Opinion based stuff:

  1. I see no need in Thrust when you will have pierce skills from Hoplite;
  2. I tried to like Synchro Thrusting but… Urrrrr, I failed. If I want strike damage I will use Earth Wave instead;
  3. Both Impale and Steed Charge sucks, but Impale at least is funny. (Plus, impale a Wizard on PvP, she/he will be useless. Works with some annoying mobs too, but it drains a lot of SP, so don’t spam it while grinding…)

Frankly, I thought exactly the same thing, if the “C1 skills” would be a shot in the foot. But so far I had no problems, even when facing monsters 10 levels above. Most of damage on ToS comes from gear anyway…

On Squire C1 I would recommend saving some points to start C2 with camping skills or more Weapon Maintenance, the buff which you can abuse solo.

Bump for people to review my 2 builds that are edited into my first post.
