Squire 1 with fencer

So throwing out ideas on a different tanky fencer build. I understand the meta fencer build is pelt 2 rod 2 fencer 2, but rod 2 just doesnt interest me.

Pelt 3 Squire 1 Fencer 2. Stats im thinking 2 dex, 1 str, 1 con. Pelt for maximum pulls/taunts along with armor break and some decent aoe which fencer lacks. Squire 1, which im still up in the air on, to self repair armor and low base durability rapiers, and to provide some cc with arrest. Fencer 2 of course for the evasion and deeps.

Another thought is to ditch squire for one rank of corsair which seems to have abit to offer for tanking.

So just some thoughts if taking one circle of squire will kill my build or just provide abit of utility for later on. I havnt reached 220+ yet, so not sure how often fencers need to run back to town for repairs. I cant see carrying multiple rapiers with X 2 lvl 5 gems or even lvl 10+ haha… TP repair kits are out of the question, unless that is the norm for grind groups? Trying to keep RL money out of fun grinds if possible.

i think the repair kits weigh a ton, since you need so many. not sure how many times you can repair before having to go back anyway.

Peltasta + Squire here. Squire 1 won’t kill your build, but I have to ask, is this your main char? Did you plan to lvl up other char? Squire is more for afk on town to make money or for grinding partys, which squire 2 is better.

For your build I think you’ll gain more going for Corsair rather than Squire for this build.

I dunno know much about Fencer repair issue. You’ll have to ask @Lostac since he’s like a Fencer master here on forum plus he has a Corsair 1 Fencer 2.

I just hit fencer 2, damage done, but enjoying the hell out of it! After reading about one circle of corsiar, I just dont see it being useful unless you go 2 circles. I’m digging arrest combo’d with armor break so far. All of my peltasta attributes are 80+ if that matters… got super lucky on this charicter with petamion rolls, like 4 lol.

Also got my pel2 rod 2 sitting at circle 6 waiting to pick class. TBH… really thinking going pel3 and 7th fencer. I now alot of haters for pel 3 on how they think its useless… I’m digging it alot.

Slithering is nice, but man the down time. Most of rods toolbox is single target. Thats my issue with the class. I’m not a world boss player, but I rarely hear of or see a single target tank needed for them… lets hope this changes. Pelt, if attributed, does some pretty nice aoe damage along with stun and armor break which I bought into since fencer is very single target heavy. More aoe damage with x10 provoke means more ■■■■ beating on me while the nukers nuke was my theory.

I have the same build, currently at fencer 1. I picked squire because i wanted to have some side income while i’m offline, and its working out pretty well for me. The main deal here is convenience; at the cost of a few added weight(which tbh isn’t a problem for me since im running 1:1 dex:con) you get repairs anywhere, and even cheaper than npc considering that you will likely get some high-end gear by rank 6 plus the transportation fees. Also rapier durability is terrible. Really depends on what you want to do since rank 5 is just a filler.

Cmiiw, but umbo thrust sets the defense to 0, rendering arrest’s attribute useless unless there are buttloads of mobs. Not really a fan of arrest since it renders you immobile.

Actually fencer does give a good tank feature, mitigate incoming physcal damage through high evasion.

And even if going tank, i want to claim that pelt3 to fencer 2 does have a fair burst.

Umbo Thrust -Preparation-Sept etoiles

Thats a full damage multi hit burst with bonus pierce modifies.
I dont remember how many hits sept etoiles does, but lets say you put enemy defense from 200 to 0 thats 200 extra damage each hit, not counting the pierce damage bonus from preparation.

Fencer2 is necessary for Preparation.

Unless you want to have some slash damage, fencer 1 and doppel 1 synergize well, but at a cost of staying at 50% evasion buff instead of reaching 100% with fencer2.

Id personally go fencer 1 doppel 1, but with rank 8 incoming, who knows what fencer 3 will look like.

That was my thinking, convenience. Took me since the start of launch to save for my venier + 2 lvl 6 green gems (pretty casual player). I’d much rather repair that myself than attempt to make x2 of this rapier, and have alittle left over for attributes, health/mana pots, and pocket change. I guess it works out about the same weight if carrying 3 average rapiers vs 1 very good rapier + repair kits.

I dont think putting squire1 in your build is that bad, you dont really have many options anyway. By my opinion the other choies would be Highlander for cartar stroke as that would grand you some Strike Damage into your build, another option would be Corsair, for pvp related events.

But as squire, the more time you spend repairing your own items, the more money have you saved not getting scammed by the NPC’s, as in the higher level you reach the more expensive it gets to repair.

And as a tank, durability happens to drop fast anyway.
