[Splitscreen] [Local Co-op]

Hello, I looked up the topics and noticed that nobody suggested this yet, so here’s my take on it.

Local CO-OP

  • 2-4 players would play using the same PC
  • Split-screen / “One camera fits-all” (zooms out and in to fit all the players)
  • Guest players would play using other characters in main player’s account

So, this is my suggestion. I think it would be pretty sweet to implement something like Local CO-OP into MMORPGs, however, I have no clue how this would impact the game’s balance (maybe people would use this to play with themselves or so, so it’s something to consider beforehand)

What are your thoughts on the subject? Let’s get some feedbacks!

I’m going to guess there’s a problem with this.
Why? I don’t need to mention it, I’m sure you’ve at least some idea.

  • Can you even be logged into Steam with two accounts? (or be allowed to sandbox Steam/ToS?)
  • Even if you did run two instances of Steam, how would they work with one instance of ToS?
  • This wouldn’t ‘enable’ multi-account self-play simply because if they wanted to they could’ve anyway. (I:)

What I think about it? I don’t. It doesn’t really matter to me.
You might consider spending some time to disagree with yourself, so you can see the counter-arguments.

Wait, why would you use two accounts?

  • Guest players would play using other characters in main player’s account

What this means is, basically, I have an account in which I own two characters: one is a swordsman, the other one is a cleric. Here, let me exemplify better:

  1. I (Player 1) am playing swordsman
  2. A friend (Player 2) comes over to my house and wants to play too
  3. Player 2 turns on the controller
  4. “PRESS START TO JOIN” appears at the top right corner of the screen
  5. Player 2 presses start
  6. “Press RT/LT to cycle through characters” appears at the top right corner, in which, game gives the option to Player 2 to choose one of the remaining characters in Player 1’s account
  7. Player 2 chooses Player 1’s Cleric Character
  8. Player 1 and Player 2 are now in a party, both playing in the same computer, using the same steam account, using the characters of Player 1’s account

This suggestion requires players to use controllers right? otherwise it’ll be an interesting play with 2 people on the same keyboard xD

@cheddargt
I qouted that, too. I understood the point. I clarified, there’s likely a problem with it.
Can you not imagine why they might not allow simultaneous access to two characters from an account?
No reasons at all?
If you can’t come up with any, I’ll let it drop here.

edit : I just realized, when you do come up with something, it would still mean I’ve done my part.
Apologies for making it seem like I had any intention to continue. I’m dropping this anyway. T:

To make it short - they can implement such for the console if they ever aim for a console version - otherwise its too much work and i dont wanna wait another year just to get into cbt 1232121 to test a “split screen feature” everyone got internet - who doesn well…poor souls go and get it…simply play with your friends online like everybody else does

I’m just thinking they could reach a much bigger audience by making tree of savior a “game to play with your ‘real life’ friends aswell”. I don’t know about you, but most of my friends are not into MMORPG, but would high likely want to face a tree of savior boss with me every now and then. Also, they could easilly add this during the Open Beta Test, so waiting wouldn’t be an issue.

They could easily add this? the whole stuff has to be programmed and it takes longer than just a few weeks. Including additional tests to make it “bug free” before releasing it. Its not a matter of a few weeks.

I am a fan of Split Screen action - on a console. A MMORPG doesn need such and you wont get a “bigger audience” with this - IMC wouldn gain anything if thus people are playing on your account

If your real life friends wanna play it - create a character that you will only play with your friends and done - thats what i do - thats what everybody did since 15 years of MMORPG

Yes, and in so many years of MMORPG, there haven’t been joystick based ones up until a few years ago. I don’t see why this is such a big deal. In my opinion, yes, IMC would gain with this because:

  1. The game will probably be F2P, so that wouldn’t really affect the
    sells
  2. Casual players who are not familiarized with the genre will get a glimpse of the game, be it in a party on your house or simply a friendly sleepover.
  3. These players who aren’t familiarized with MMORPGS, may like it and start playing it by themselves afterwards.
  4. It’s easier to present a game to your friend by passing him a controller and having fun together than saying "hey man, download this 5gb game that you never heard before but probably will enjoy.
  5. It would inovate the MMORPG genre, making it less of a “individual-multiplayer experience” and more of a “group-multiplayer experience”, breaking that PLAYER-PC walls and making “Tree of Savior night at John’s house” a thing, you know? This game is a lot of fun and I can really see this being a thing

Get new laptops for each user? all my irl friends have their own computers, thats how lan parties are set up… playing in the same computer in these modern times, its kind of weird…

Hell no, tha’ts the same as creating an official multi-clienting tool for botting.

Maybe you should try a lan house for your ToS parties.

Getting all sweaty and huddled together. Panting.

This would support Multiboxing/Cheating - so it wont ever happen.

Cool, so if I want my girlfriend to play the game with me when she comes over, all I have to do is buy her a R$3.000 laptop, right? That sounds practical.
It costs about $300 to get a computer that runs Tree of Savior in the US, but in my country it costs about $1.000 (R$3.000 or so). Yes, our economy is flawed and yes, none of you have anything to do with this.
I don’t know, it sounded like a good idea to play alongside 4 friends of mine who never heard of the game before and simply have fun together, but I guess people would take advantage of that to farm stuff and etc.
Well, it was just an idea. I’m not that into mmorpgs, the only one I really played before ToS was RO.

Sucks to be poor :’(

anyway any person at profesional education level should have a decent computer/laptop.

Then ill be playing with a pocket healer by myself using this.

If you can manage to control both joysticks at the same time… Sure, why not?

list of problems I could find that will never happen in an MMO (at least most MMO i’ve played).

  1. Dual logging. as what you’ve stated same account 2 instances.

  2. Dual / multiple client. most games doesn’t allow this since it’s basically cheating. I meant accounts are different but the same person is playing it. why is this bad? let’s say account 1 you main is hardcore farming. then account 2 (your ALT) can be your business type of guy. E.G. selling stuff for you.

  3. Permanent progression. your “guest” character levels up. gain items and those data are gonna be saved in the server. and wooohooo! another advantage for your character! If TOS was like dota where every game everything resets then it might be plausible.

In addition to number 2. you can leech that ALT put it in a safe place. go back to him with your low hp. heal yourself > farm > repeat.

Conclusion : MMOs are designed to be played 1:1. 1 player : 1 character. even if your concept is kinda good (playing with friends and all). I doubt that this will ever happen. nuff said

Why not just… LAN? The games isn’t even exclusive for high-end rigs. This will be a nightmare to implement.

Do you not see potential issues with this?
