Some quests should be hidden, others not.'

I’ll keep this short and concise.

I believe that not all quests should be hidden, main story, repeatables and dailies should be the ones shown to us.

NPC’s in towns should also be shown to us. The ones I want to be hidden are those out in the areas doing random things, like that healer in the miners village aswell as the guy banging on the rock wall and the chest that spawned a boss.

That’s pretty much it. your thoughts?

I believe that would deter slightly from the aspect of Role-Playing.
Maybe you’re just a nobody that’s lost forever in the land, never really meeting anybody or doing anything important.

Having experience just handed to you isn’t really an “experience”, now is it?

Wait what, were you just calling me a nobody or were you roleplaying a character? It’s pretty rude to just say that.

What no; I meant to imply I’d like to talk to absolutely zero NPCs and still travel across the world as though nothing terrible were happening around me. An example, mane.

I’m the nobody here, not you.

But you could still do that even with quest markers? If the fact that there are quest markers above people heads (which there are already) which bothers you then maybe an optional toggle to disable them?

Main story quests were not hidden in the beta, they just disappeared when you didn’t had enough level to continue, but reapeared back when you did.

I honestly wish there was an option to turn on all quest markers. That way I don’t have to keep going around talking to random NPCs trying to make sure I am not missing a quest.

Yeah that was an issue I was having aswell, I would talk to the same NPC over and over after every quest I did in that area to see if I started a quest somewhere. But again I don’t want all quests to be shown only the main ones, repeatables, dailies and the side quests that aided you in leveling all located in central quest location of each area. I still want the ones where you have to go search for them like the ones i mention in my original post.

Also how about the hidden quests actaully being more rewarding than the generic side quests? Like achievement are with additional hair colours or cosmetic hats and stuff?

D’oh, don’t you ever just want to talk to an NPC for the sake of hearing a nice story sometime though? Maybe they have something else to say, hey.

Having your main quests just sorta handed over to you makes them a little bit less of a “quest” and more of exp-generators.
The main quest was also supposed to be the main “story”, wouldn’t you say?

Those little hidden quests too, those are all nuggets for your benefit, to add to the atmosphere of the game or else they would be much easier to find. Think about that a bit, why even put in a quest if it’s not going to give you a nice hefty reward?

Why, for the sake of writing a quest, of course!

On the last day of the beta, since I had nothing to do I started exploring over high level maps (map lvl 120, i was lvl 60), there I found a wounded guardian, so I talked to him, he needed for me to buy him some time while he was recovering, so I took the quest and protected him from a few waves of monsters until the timer was out, he rewarded me with a level 6 exp card. I’ll post a video of the quest later here.

(Try to ignore the spanish dialogue xD this is a fragment that was recorded with TeamSpeak ON)

I feel that this experience was a lot more rewarding than if the quest was marked on the map since I was the one that found the soldier, I didn’t need for the interface to tell me where he was, I wasn’t even searching for him, he was there alone and afraid and I helped him to survive  this is why I love that all quests should be hidden. I feel that if you have quests marked on your map or flagged over the npcs, it makes no difference from grinding.

Well putting aside that most side quest aren’t exactly elegantly written, especially after translating. I was again talking the quest that aren’t meant for the good story, i.e repeatable, dailys, and the sidequest that are intact there purely for exp. I again still want there to be hidden quest to offer good content to those who like to explore and even added an extra incentive to do so. I don’t see how it could get any better than that? You still get good hidden quests with better rewards, and the important missions to progress and gain levels are shown for all to see, thus providing no confusion and avoiding small annoyances.

Yeah I think I remember doing something similar  It’s nice to have little things like that which is why i stress that I don’t want to leave them out. But part of the exp problem was that alot of people didn’t even know there where repeatable quests in the game.

I kind of enjoyed having to talk to all of the npc’s though – the fact that they might have a quest gave me the incentive to actually talk to them and read what they had to say. lol. Also talking to npc’s increases your adventure journal ranking so they obviously want to incentivize talking to all of them as much as possible anywho!

That said, I don’t think showing a few extra quests and hiding others is a totally bad idea… Maybe show a couple basic quests per area but have more special/difficult or more rewarding quests be hidden? idk

Why would anyone NOT want to talk to all the NPCs anyway? For all this commotion about hidden classes, I’d imagine everyone would want to talk to as much NPCs as possible in the hopes of obtaining the quest/clues about the hidden classes.

That’s kinda the same thing I was thinking. The main ones that let you progress through the game with exp should be shown allowing you to find them all and not fall behind in exp or necessary items like armour and whatnot. Where as the hidden ones could offer more interesting dialogue and give more rewarding items for finding them, be it silver weapons or whatever. Also you could still spam space bar on every npc and skip the dialogue if you chose to in cbt. I did that multiple times when the translations where broken and still got the quests fine. And it’s not to say that all not quest marker npc’s would offer a hidden quest. There can still be npc’s whos only purpose is to give atmosphere to the game and dialogue that centers around her personal troubles that aren’t relevant to gameplay. These are all cool features that i am by no means suggesting be removed.

Maybe they could implement a “town billboard” that directs you to some of the npcs that need help, but I don’t think that giving them freely on the map would help, it would end up streamlining the game experience and killing exploration.

A billboard system sounds cool, though I don’t really know what it would fully entail nor can I figure out if it’s practical or not. But again you still have a sense of freedom as there are always quests that are still hidden from you. And the people who like to explore and find everything in the game will still get satisfaction from finding the hidden quests. I also don’t really find that hiding the quests really does anything to reduce the game being linear. Like it or not the quests are still the same hidden or not and the only difference it would make in not showing them is you’d most likely just miss some of the quests, but you’d still do the same quests in each area aswell as the main story.

No thanks!

Only main quest should be advertised, everything else should be up to players to find. I’m so sick of following mini-map markers in all the games since WoW came out.

Okay, could you elaborate? Are you in complete disagreement or are you okay with certain quests being shown (repeatable and dailys)? Is it just the single side stories you would like Hidden or is it truly everything including the dailys and repeatable and if you could the main quest line aswell? And if so why? why is it so bad? Does it really make that much difference? Etc.
