Some questions about Wizard (builds mainly)

I posted this on Steam’s forum a few days ago, but no one answered, so I decided to post here.

First, I played only the open beta and logged a few times “just for old times’ sake”, so I’m outdated about how the game is currently, but I plan to play again now and I want some help from you if it’s not asking too much.
I know there has been a major update recently and was changed the way the damage scale, but this is not yet clear to me. So…low rank skills (e.g. Energy Bolt) have a decent damage at end game now? And Psychic Pressure?
Is possible to craft Spellbooks (Enchanter’s skill) from any skill? My doubt is mainly about Psychic Pressure, Summoning, Item Awakening, any Rune Caster’s skill and even Craft Spellbook.

Now, I’m thinking about 4 builds.

  1. Wiz 1 > Cryo 3 > Sorc 3 > Sage [http://www.tosbase.com/tools/skill-simulator/build/t7sjel364r/]
    I think it has good CCs with Cryo, sustained damage with Sorc and the mainly damage from Sage.

  2. Wiz 1 > Cryo 2 > Kino 3 > Warlock 2 [http://www.tosbase.com/tools/skill-simulator/build/p3rxzq1jdr/]
    Cryo again for CCs, but now with Kino (and a bit damage) while Warlock doing AoE damage.

  3. Wiz 1 > Cryo 1 > Kino 3 > Necro 3 [http://www.tosbase.com/tools/skill-simulator/build/snudusdv72/]
    Cryo is just a filler in this build (I don’t like Pyro and think freeze better than Surespell). CC and damage from Kino and Necro to complement. That work in my thoughts, but I think something is missing.

  4. Wiz 1 > Cryo 3 > Kino 3 > Sage [http://www.tosbase.com/tools/skill-simulator/build/lx0672ff9h/]
    Looks like the first option, but more CC instead of sustained damage, but yet with good damage.

Sorry if a said some :heart::heart::heart::heart::heart::heart::heart:t. All I said is based in Youtube and some sites, so I may be mistaken in some things that is obvious for you. I accept suggestions, corrections and tips. :wink:

I’m no specialist in wizards, but afaik the IW+PP combo of a cryokino would benefit more from Cryo 3 than Kino 3 since the dmg scales with IW, so that’s something to consider for the builds that can’t get circle 3 in both.

  1. I’ve heard a lot of players saying Sorc/Necro are kinda sucky at the moment so not sure how that would pull off.

  2. You might want to get Rune Caster there for the huge burst for bosses (also Cryo C3 gives more DMG because of lvl 15 Ice Wall).

  3. Same as 1.

  4. This is a pvp Build, could replace sage with Rune Caster and be a nice boss killer (specially now that you do not need Surespell to prevent Kino from being interrupted since they implemented an attribute for it I believe).

Right now the popular builds are:

Wiz C3 > Ele C3 > Warlock C2, nothing uncommon, has been in the meta for the longest of time since it’s the best aoe dps in the Wizard Tree.

Wiz C2 > Link C2 > Thaum C2 > FF C2, this is a farmer build mainly.

Wiz C1 > Cryo C3 > Chrono C3, Support build, everyone loves you (also kinda decent dmg because Cryo abilities now are decent dmg dealers, you can max Ice Blast and Ice Wall and go full INT or balance it out with INT/CON to do nice dmg).

Those are the builds I see the most, I can’t say if there’s more as I’m not experienced that much with the Wizard Tree but that’s technically the basics right now or what has been around lately since the patch update (which to think about it, it has been around since way before that lol).

EDIT:

Forgot about the Cryo C3 > Elementalist C3 > Wiz C2/Sage which is mainly an Ice/Lightning Wizard, though it’s mainly for roleplaying it’s actually really good, you can get Wiz C2 to get Surespell (pretty needed for Elementalist imo) or Sage for utility.

4th build has good CC.
people run that build with Rune caster instead of sage. Its mainly focused on Ice wall and psychic pressure combo which is good burst damage when you hit 15 walls with pp under rune of ice buff.

3rd build is bad.

1st build is decent but you will find evocation doing more dps than your summons and cryo c3 is good cc but not good damage for solo play.

2nd build could work. mastema from warlock is very very strong. kino is okay. cryo c2 is lack luster.
Build has icewall pp combo and warlock skills for filler damage. I guess its Decent but akward like someone who doesnt know what he wants to do.

i run the 4th build but with runecaster instead of sage and It is very fun to burst down bosses but can feel a bit boring when playing solo because most of the time you are just CCing mobs and attacking at the same time.

You could try cryo c3 ele c3 sage if you want to incorporate cryo c3 and sage.

I do not recommend using sorc or necro at all.

In my experiences, Sage is not for DPS. Their skills are neat, but do not do the sort of damage you might be expecting.

Also, don’t go Cryo2 in any of your builds–if you’re going to incorporate Cryo, go C1 or C3. C2 is a wasted spec in my opinion because you don’t gain enough from it to justify an entire circle.

Wiz1->Cryo3->Kino1->RuneCaster->Warlock2 could work. You only need 1 circle in Kino for the icewall+PP combo, and Rune of Ice will significantly increase your DPS from it. Then you’ll also have Warlock for more variety in your skill rotation.
