Dragoon is just a bad mix of all the above⌠cant rly tank, cant rly burst, and so on
Fencer, Highlander and Barbarian are all more focused on actual dps then Cataphract, who has âhighâ base knockbacks for disruption, CC that repositions an individual enemy, and a zoning tool in rush. Turning these knockbacks off, its still left with less damage output then the Barbarian C2 who gains its attack buffs at rank 4 with overheats on 3 key attack moves.
Or the Highlander which gets its bleed, moulinets multi-hit and skyliner. Not to mention Highlander explicitly rewards its pushback with more damage when attributed.
It Straight out doesnât have their sustained damage output, however neither of those two classes compare with Cataphracts ability to be divisive and spread out enemies. This isnât a trait thats particularly valuable in pve given the trend of clumping for aoe, but its suitably valuable to punish enemy grouping in pvp. Including its block penetration attribute which again, is not a large deal in PvE but goes along well with its pvp intentions.
Its still an offensive class but its not in a dps race, its not made to be in one. A lot of classes arenât thereâs simply too many classes to try and make them all DPS within the attack type without overwhelming redundancy.
On the subject of rodelero its correct it is defense type, I went back to reaffirm and while I advanced a new rodelero yesterday and it was declared Attack type, our in-game text is out-dated and Rodelero has been changed from Attack type to Defense on its Ktos label.
In Itos Rodelero still says Attack type when you advance to it.
This hasnât changed its intention or gameplay. With Peltasta being the only tank class. With Tanking being foremost about aggro-management and Pel being the only class that explicitly modifies aggro outside of sword 1âs provoke. Just as neither QS or Paladin are tanks, and yet are Defense type like Pel.
Icon colours are a messy metric because not all types are in line with the color (Falconer for instance).
Barb through its attack buffs and Highlander through (ktos skyliner) are both notably greater dps contributors then Cataphract which pretty much only has its skill damage where Earthwave is no greater then Seism due to Overheat.
Um, the combo is earth wave -> doom spike -> rush --> earth wave --> doom spike. Yes cata can sustain damage for quite a bit.
Highlander can divide and knock down just fine with wagon wheel and cartar stroke. Same with barb seism.
Highlander has higher DPS due to the short cooldown of skyliner, while barb leans more toward burst because of the helm chopper -> cleave -> seism combo has 30 secs cooldown and 5 seconds window.
Same concept applies for hoplite where you want to unleash all your damage within the 6-12 seconds spear lunge is active. Thus they are categorized as burst.
Anyway, I can record a video of my cata to show you it throw skills out continuously. Yes the damage output is low because the class skill damage is weak, but as long as it can sustain the skills, it should be DPS.
where it lacks in having not as high DPS it gains in utility and being a bit bulkier and its speed . i like to rank the cata a hybrid though . its not the strongest for DPS but not the weakest in the swordsman tree. same with its durability (gaining % of its pets stats is pretty nice boost) as well as speed. one thing for sure in pvp if you try retreating from a cata all i have to say is good luck. trot maxed really is like trying to run away from a car as well as its ability to deal with targets that use shields (40% block penetration with 2 hand spears)
DPS means sustaining your damage continuously through skills, it doesnât mean high number (although higher is better obviously). You can say cata is a weak DPS with trade off for utility, yes
Also Trot is not that prominent, if opponent has a chrono then all is naught

I never once claimed Cataphract isnât offensive, but its not in a dps race with other classes because its focus is on its being able to break apart enemy groups and skirting the field with its mobility.
Just like Psychokino isnât in a dps race although it does contribute its own solid damage.
