So About Tanking

So building a C3 Peltasta and C3 Rodelero. Well my question if when you tank and draw agro with swash buckling etc, is it better going High Def High HP with con and plate or mix it up with evasion dex and leather?

It kinda came across my mind since my C2 pelt now has high guard and umbo blow enhance. Now when leveling solo since friends aren’t online all the time, I want the block stagger so umbo blow can deal damage twice and the enhancement skyrockets the damage done. But more often than not I encounter a lot of Dodges and can’t get that block bonus perk. I don’t have high dex. Just enough for accuracy so I don’t miss at mobs… So yeah… Opinions are much appreciated.

Just a begginer swordman here, but i studied some theory about the class.
There is no need to be full tank in this game, but if you are going to do that, try puting some dex to criti more and dodge

You are quite covered on block and HP and evasion by class alone. That said you need do have a decent DPS to keep the mobs attention. Also neither evasion or block will save you from magic mobs later on. So a good HP pool is recommended.

And let me tell you rodelero is masochism. (You will need to spent 3x the same silver in gear and buffs to get half dps vs hoplite for example) Don’t fall in the Beetleback trap and go for a good sword early if you keep your build. (But you might want to Pel 2 Rod 2 and get some dps circles. I got doppel for ciclone and morchslag (misspelled i think) and don’t regret.

Rodelero and Peltasta won’t do much damage even with strenght, from what i’ve seen dex will scale his damage better in those classes. I belive that Fencer will cover your weakness better than Doppelsander, And please, don’t go rodelero c3, as the only thing it give are crap damage skills, in my opinion Swordsman 1, Peltasta2, Rodelero 2, Fencer2 will be better, Fencer is good at defence too.

I found fencer would improve my weakness. Also I’m already rank 6 and playing fine. My main job is hold mobs and keep then in place. Fencer don’t get much better than rod in that aspect. And really typed the wrong skill I use punish.

I have been reading a lot about tanking, and became a little disapointed by peltasta and rodelero. I also liked the idea of a really defensive build with pel3 and rod3, but as some other people have commented, both classes offer little to no rewards by getting them to 2nd or 3rd circle.

I’m lvling a new tank char right now (pel1) and seriously thinking about taking Hop c2 or even c3, mainly because of Finestra. Let’s compare them:

High Guard: at lvl 10 it gives +240 block, -50% attack rate, and -100 crit rate (You need pel c3 to max this buff)

Finestra: at lvl 10 it gives +20% block, crit chance +100 and -28 evasion (You need hop c2 to get it to lvl 10, and c3 to max it at lvl 15, getting even more block)

As we can see, even tough HG gives a good amount of block, it is a flat amount and at higher lvls will become less significant. Also it debuffs your attack a lot. Finestra, on the other hand, diminishes evasion but it’s not that terrible, specially at higher lvls. Not only it increases block by a scaling %, it also pumps your crit.

So, at the moment, there seems to be no reason to get pel to c2 or even c3, if one wants to buff up block without losing a lot damage output.

So now I’m thinking in something like: Pel 1 > Hop 2/3, and then a mix between Rod and Fencer. Sorry for the long post, I would appreciate feedback by those who have been tanking as either of the classes commented.

P.D.: Here’s a link about block and evasion comparison:

According to the Hoplite guide take high guard 3 for the buffs and max finestra . You can increase your block rate with class atribute. Peltasta 3 and Rod 3 are not the better of choices now. Unless you really want to buff strike dmg for some monk friend. lol Fencer is not a good choice for hoplite cause (unless I’m mistaken) you cant use rapiers skills with spears and vice versa.

Right, thanks, I didn’t think about it… I don’t like spears xD reading a little further some people like Rod 2-3 because of Slithering (immune to magic, but not cc) or Squire for repairs/arrest.

Rodelero is not a tank class, it’s a CC class. Don’t let the class color fool you.

If you want to tank, sword --> pelt --> hop c3 is a much better choice since you have 30% more block.

You can add pelt c2 for high guard and umbo blow

Low level mobs tend to miss a lot, but at 180+ it won’t be the case

Thank you! :joy: I wanted to read an experience like yours! I was just being tempted by the numbers of finestra, but at heart I always wanted rodelero (already had a c1 one, just rerolled for better stat/skill distribution)

deanleroy89692: So all this critcism and the build you said is no different from what i said before? Lol
I am not saying he needs DPS over HP, just said that DEX is good, because it gives dodge and a boost on the DPS of low damage builds.
Evasion is worse than life at endgame PVE, is what people say (and i think i belive), but you compensate it with CC, thats an interesting ideia.

Hoplite C3 tank is just for average AOE damage with hold mob.

I’m already get rank 6 swordman C2 for MAX level Restrain.

Just level 4 Restrain only but i found out Umbo Blow 3 sec stun is way more better…

Thinking to MAX Restrain combo with spam Spear Throw then see it result.
