Slithering and restrain - PvP builds now viable for grinding?

I am putting together a new swordsman for PvE/PvP and It came to my attention, from in game conversations and some forum reading that peltasta lost alot of its value and restrain/slithering are more important now. That is acctualy great news for PvP builds like swrd3>cata, swrds3>rod2>fencer, swrds3>rod3 and others.

Is that just hype from the recent release of new maps, or will this kind of build be sought after for grinding from now on ?

Also to note, peltasta’s High Guard originally debuffed your attack power by 50% when active but now only by 7%. The result is Rim Blow and Umbo Blow are a lot stronger with the +250% skill damage attribrutes on High Guard.

From other MMOs, PvP builds are usually viable in PvE but not the other way around. Another trope is that tanks are usually OP in PvP.

Going by those tropes it is entirely normal that PvP builds are dominating PvE, because that is usually the case. I would also expect to see pelt dominate in PvP eventually.

I had a SW > Pelt 3 > Rod 2 > Squire 1 high CON tank that I gave up, tried him in pvp a few times and I can tell you this is totally untrue. You hit like a fly, literally cannot do anything but get ignored until all your teammates are dead then they focus on you.

Sw3 Pel1 Rod3 Mur1

I’m not really versed with Rodelero and Murmillo skills, but never again will I get myself (Sw3 Cata3 Goon2) offguard near one. My 27k hp got erased in what, 3-4 hit combo of skills if I remember it right?

Back on topic, any build w/ Pelt is always viable for grinding with the right gear and party composition. The defensive abilities brought by Rod and Murm just makes things even better.

By the way, is there any con to perma-wearing the Cassis Crista (helmet skill) as a Murmillo? I notice him taking it off. If I’m right, you can’t use Murmillo skills if it’s not on.

The helm buff wears off after 4 minutes so u gotta recast it again. He didn’t manually take off the helm

Oh, thanks man. That explains it. I googled about it but can’t find much info.

Does it have some sort of cooldown? (E.g. can’t use for x seconds after wearing off)

Is there any penalty while it is worn?

I looked it up, apparently the buff is 4 minutes with 0 cooldown:

I’ve heard it decreases movement speed but this site doesn’t list that, so maybe it was removed at some point?

lowers movespeed by 3

I think you guys got me wrong, I’m talking about builds that don’t take peltasta, such as swd3>rod2 variations wich have both restrain and slithering. It looks like thoose two skills are now much more valuable for PvE after rank 8, pelt alone just for the agro lost alot of its utility with new mobs having huge HP pools and hitting alot harder.

What I want to check is if you guys agree with this or its just some early hype. Also groups might start using barrier and pelt for farming, Idk.

pelt is more so for roughly grouping mobs together, not so much keeping aggro.
Pelt gathers the mobs, then you have Cryo 3, Kino 3, Linker and to some extent Ele 3 for CC while the whole party kills.
You could argue that Pelt isnt needed, but its still the fastest at gathering every mob on the screen.

So would you say take pelt and leave “tanking” for other classes ?

You can take both btw.

its still possible to tank
the problem is keeping aggro, which is practically impossible, atleast for large mobs, bosses it still works fairly well, but you gotta deal dmg too

how about sw attb provoke lvl 10…which provoke 50% per attb each atk…pelt just need to atk to aggro the mob…isnt swash buckling aggro mob for 30s is i remember correctly…iam curious how provoke works tho

As an ex-tank i can confirm this - not being able to maintain aggro makes you useless and fail at your job as a tank, and that was still rank 7. Rank 8 is even worse - swash buckling stays at lv 15 and rank 8 dps classes deal crazy high damage, meanwhile your big walking bag of HP still scratches enemies so they end up ignoring you

Swordies Taunt / Aggro attribute should already be in your arsenal no matter what.
I cant say i know exactly how the Attribute works, my guess would be if you and another player deal the same damage, you generate 50% more Aggro than him / her.
But theres probably more to it than that, but i have both a full Con pelt 3-rode 2-templar 2 and a pelt 3-rode 3-murmillo that is Majorily Str and Dex, and im having a much easier time keeping aggro on my Murmillo.
Still losing it, but can maintain it for longer

And for Swash Buckling, i cant remember ontop of my head, but the debuff on monsters only last for something like 5 seconds, you get a 30 sec HP buff if you have the attribute
