well that isn’t even a question anymore since you answered your own question that you’ll use a sword in the future.
but for power leveling purposes you can take it, use spear and reset afterwards.

If you take hoplite only for the leveling, you might just take barb for that, better leveling and work with sword/shield.
ask urself what r u trying 2 become.
