Shinobi design is quite big joke/mistake when you look at it's class change quest

I guess that Shinobi class was suppose to be solution for lack of assassin/thief class in ToS (as RO veteran player I was super disappointed when I fist time checked what classes are available in ToS)… but IMC messed up:

  • they gave pseudo steal mechanic form Corsair (we still don’t know the % values of steal chance from Jolly Rogger)
  • they gave pseudo bonus to attacking from behind for Corsair… BUT sadly it’s just bonus for dagger ONLY instead of “ALL ATTACKS” not to mention that this attribute would better work for shinobi actually if it’s suppose to be ninja/assassin class.
  • they didn’t gave proper invisibility skill for Ninja/Shinobi class or at least didn’t even bothered to copy-paste Cloaking from Scout
  • the only burst/deadly attack skill (aka tool to assassinate target fas) is actually double edge sword that makes Shinobi take huge amount of damage
  • Shinobi scales ONLY with spears/pierce damage. There is no skill in Shinobi kit that works with Swords/Slash damage that fits more thief/assassin/ninja archetype. So if you picked barb, highlander or doppel you will have 0 synergy, specially with incoming barbarian changes - cleave will debuff enemies and make them take more damage from slash attacks)

it’s like Shinobi was super rushed class without no proper vision and design that’s why it have literally 2 similar skills (Katon and Mijin) with even 2 same attributes (super short invisibility that require tons of silver to spend first)

From your points it sounds like you don’t understand the point of this game is to combine classes to build a skill set for what you want to do.

Beyond that there would be more pierce support in the future. We don’t know IMCs plans for the upcoming classes.

And yes we know some skills need to be re balanced which is being worked on Ktos has a big balance patch coming up and our databases will be merged soon so we will be getting those patches.

Maybe Shinobi 2 have stealth?

because that’s what ToS Shinobi quest implies? Kill enemies quickly and be then become undetected for everyone around? Also basic mmo logic implies that ninja/assassin classes should have some kind of invisibility so they can ambush enemies from behind. Not to mention the classic “Ninja using smoke bomb to disappear” stereotype.
See? Smoke Bomb would be great concept for making invisibility skill for Shinobi. "Shinobi covers his face with scarf and throws few smoke bombs on ground Shinobi become invisible for 30 seconds unless it attacks and create small poison cloud. Enemies that stands in that cloud are poisoned/blind/silenced/slowed/ for 3/6/9/12/15 (based on skill level) seconds… BOOM here you go good invisibly skill for RANK 8 HIDDEN class. You can throw some attribute like Shinobi gets bonus movement speed during cloaking or after coming out of shadow or bonus armor/magic resist/evasion (pick one) or health regeneration during invisibility or bonus dmg for next used skill.

also let’s be real here. Don’t you think that archer class have way to tools to invisible or mitigate damage? Rogue hide, Scout cloaking, Scout “Solid Snake wanna be” barrel. Combine this with long range and HUGE damage from Archer tree and it’s already way to strong mix. And now look at Swordsman classes that suppose to resemble stealthy thief/assassin types: Shinobi (ninja/assassin character) or Corsair (thief/character that’s suppose to deal more damage from behind and steal items).

No it doesn’t. Your forcing what you want it to be onto their class. The skill set it has i no way conforms with the stereo type YOU want it to be.

I agree with OP. IMC put to many classes that have synergy and themes in common in differents trees, and this is also happen to be link with all the swordsman problem want to be dps and not to tank(not going to address this here).

@lukiner666 I doubt IMC is going to rework this or any classes in the game, we have just to accept the way they did.

While not eloquently phrase, OP has agood point. Shinobi feels like it was cobbled together. The skills are extremely subpar for a R7 and have very little synergy with the rest of the class (I mean, even the fact that clones only copy swordsmen skills and have so many drawbacks is just terrible game design).

Katon and Mijin does the stealth thing to some extent already. Unfortunately, that stealth is short, kinda kills you, and has a long cooldown. If only the stealth was long enough to justify murdering yourself with mijin.

Shinobi were known for their love of gunpowder and while I have to agree they should have gotten smoke bombs (RIP lachrymator) IMC needs to work on what Shinobi has right now and tweak the values. As it stands Shinobi is a compromise between the real-life counterpart with the elements of gunpowder warfare and stealth and the mystical counterpart with literally teleporting via wood and bunshin that just fails at both. I really wish IMC just let Shinobi either be archers (that gives a melee alternative to archers like a sort of reversal from RO thieves/rogues who could use bows as an option) or made a literal assassin/thief base class.

the real ninja is in archer class ar-x-scout-rogue2-x
you get your cloak, backstab, OP crit rate from behind, extra dmg with Dagger from behind, reducing evasion, increasing evasion, and smoke bomb.

IMC should give rogue2 attribute to dash like swordsman, and there we go our ninja.

So you’re saying that the ToS shinobi class quest doesn’t imply you are supposed to kill enemies quicky and then become undetected for everyone around?

So… since we’re talking about classes not being close to realistic counterparts : how come Elementists Comet is only so small? Shouldn’t a real level 10 comet be strong enough to wipe out an entire country, aka instantkill everyone and everything for multiple maps around you?

But seriously :
I think regardless what they do with classes there is always at least one person who can find something that is missing in any class. Class circles in TOS can have only so many skills so it’s not possible to fit everything in a single class, especially if it’s a hidden class. In the case of TOS, they decided to focus on the typical offensive aspects of a shinobi (kunais, shadow clones, firebombs, etc) and simply didn’t have enough skill slots left for the stealthy aspects… not to mention that with TOSs class structure that’d mean with future ranks you could also get extremely unusual things like cloaked Templars or shadow-cloning Squires, which is totally nonsensical and out-of-place in terms of what these classes usually stand for than Shinobis not having perma stealth.

But this week on kTOS there is supposedly a big skill balance change, maybe they’ll improve some aspects like the cloaking skill.

The stupid thing about Shinobi is that the class quest focuses on the stealth elements of the shinobi and then when you finally actually get the class, it doesn’t match that quest you just did to get it.

merge Katon and Mijin since they are basically the same skills (gunpowder/bombs), remove their pathetic stealth attributes and give them something else. And here you go

you have 1 free slot for stealth/cloaking skill

Let’s be honest why do Shinobi have even 2 same skills? It’s like IMC tried to copy the RO Ninja “Killing Stroke” and made Mijin as the “masochist” version of Katon

they could just make (toggle) attribute for Katon that increase damage of that skill x10 but it have additional health cost. You don’t have to be genius to come up with something like this.

Also if they really want to stick with 2 skill that have the same design in Shinobi kit then they can always give cloaking for Corsair

Corsair have skill that’s the most useless one in whole game. “Open Chest”… heck it have even class attribute that give Corsair movement speed boost after opening chest… the dagger one is also pretty garbage but that’s other story

but the question is why? We have like 20+ chest in whole ToS and we get keys from quests.

If Corsair is suppose to be somehow based on Thief/Rogue class (stealing with Jolly Rogger, restraining enemy with hook, burst skills (Sonic Blow wannabes) then cloaking would be great idea in place of “Open Chest”
