The existence of the meta is unavoidable, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have fun with our characters! I really love seeing people’s builds and learning new things about how different classes can work together, so let’s share our unique/uncommon builds and why we picked them. Who knows, you might even find a new combination you want to try out!
I’ll start with mine: a support PVE Wizard centred around Sorcerer and Thaumaturge.
When I first started playing I fell in love with the concept of the Sorcerer class, so I knew right away I wanted to structure my build around Sorcerer C2~3. I picked PyroC2 to help with early levelling and to give me something to do while my summon was busy fighting for me (and then Agny happened later on so it turned out to be a good choice even though everyone was crazy for CryoC3/WizardC3 at the time).
I initially picked Thaumaturge just for Swell Body, but later came to realize that it had excellent synergy with Sorcerer as a supporting class. The offensive power of Sorcerer’s Summoning and Salamion both scale off of INT, and Summon Familiar’s damage scales off of magic attack. Thaumaturge can add up to +145 INT with Swell Brain and around +800~1000 additional magic attack using Swell Left/Right Arm and a dagger offhand weapon. With all my buffs active, Familiar’s base damage nearly doubles and my TS gets about +600 base physical/magical attack. All summons and the INT-scaling for Swell Left/Right Arm also take a snapshot, so even when I use Transpose to swap my INT into CON my summons remain powerful and my buffs allow me to maintain a respectable amount of damage.
On the downside of things, it’s a build that takes up a lot of buff slots (Fire Enchant, Swell Left Arm, Swell Right Arm, Swell Brain, and Transpose) so unless there’s a Krivis around I usually hold back on some of the buffs. If it’s a party full of Archers/Swordsmen then I try to cast my Swell Brain a bit of a distance away so they don’t have to keep clicking it off, and if there are other buff-heavy classes like Priest or Chrono then the Arm buffs are the first to go. I think that’s why not a lot of people go for ThauC3 (plus the attributes get a bit expensive), but when you get a party full of Wizards/Clerics who run INT builds then Thau’s buffs really get to shine.
And that’s my build! So, what other fun builds have people put together?
