You got it for being one of the top 1000 players in character level. I got one as well.
It is meant to give to someone less fortunate, friends in particular.

That e-mail would look and begin different then. The title would be “Additional Beta Key for Top 1,000 Players”
He was lucky enough to get one of the 3k additional beta keys.
