Running TOS on Mac (Bootcamp)

Considering a 27" iMac.
Was anyone able to play TOS CBT on a Mac in bootcamp? If so what FPS and what specs/model was it on?

This post was flagged by the community and is temporarily hidden.

I don’t own a Mac but from what i could understand its basically the same as installing the windows OS on a normal machine just from a different way, the bootcamp assistant should install all the necessary drivers for you so i guess that would make your mac run fine, just to make sure post the machine specs here, since you said its an iMac 27" it can run Win10 also i would suggest to have at least 8GB of RAM to be on the safe side independent on which version you will install.

For what reason exactly are you considering a mac? You can get far more power in a PC that costs a fraction of the cost of a mac. Professional graphical designers, video editors, etc. used to prefer macs over pc, but today those software packages run just as well on pc.

I’m merely curious.

I don’t see a problem picking a mac, as long as he/she don’t cry about lack of games for Mac, but he is willing to do bootcamp so i guess that would work fine for him/her.
Same stuff happen on PC also, people who banish windows OS from their lives and go with Linux, but you barely see any big title or even MMO for Linux, so they have to use Wine, which not all the time is reliable or stable for that and require a better knowledge in codding for compile a more stable version for the game the person want or just wait for someone to compile it one day.

I do hope tho, ToS goes for multiplataform one day.

Windows is the most widely used and accessible operating system with the most developer focus in both games and productivity applications. Comparing Linux and MacOs is quite literally comparing apples and oranges. Linux is the most open operating system designed, whereas MacOs is the most walled of walled gardens imaginable with arguably inferior yet higher priced proprietary hardware.

I simply cannot imagine a situation wherein anyone would be making the better purchasing decision in buying an apple computer.

Again, I was just curious in the Op’s reasons for considering a mac.

Depending on what he will use, i know many users that require a Mac for their jobs, be it at work or at home working since it provide better hardware and software for the said jobs, but well, i don’t know what goes in the head of the people at apple, by this time, they should made something more competitive with MS, as for Linux, despite being Open Source, as far as i know little progress has been made OS wise, except the bug fixes and stability improvement, i don’t know if OpenGL can be compared to DirectX in terms of performance, and honesty i’m pending to highly doubt it get near of what DX can do. Then again, it is a stable OS in most scenarios, but for games, it is tricky.
By this it is easy to know why MS OS is viewed as better for games, until one of those 2, Apple and Linux Devs, develop something that can run equal or even beat MS.

In ToS case, i think it is possible to make versions for both OSes, but its IMC call and for now there are more important stuff to be done.

I ran TOS iCBT2 using bootcamp on my Macbook pro mid 2012. (I upgraded my ram to 8GB but I am not sure if it was before or after the CBT). I never had any trouble and played usually with about 40 fps on lowest setting. I believe I got to 15-20 fps when using a bit better graphics. (I didn’t actually notice a big difference on the art when playing on low graphics). So yeah, no problems there, I will keep playing on my Mac once release or a new beta comes out.

playing bootcamp here.
with top mac mini late 2014, win 10, 64
fps in PVE is 30-60
all ingame graphics settings are disabled

Ive’ never had any problems running bootcamp. And the discussion about operating systems. I’ve never worked in an environment that had a majority of pc machines. To me it sounds like a probable scenario of you work for the government or some ■■■■ like that.

Obviously the two systems excel at different things. But with boot-camping windows you’ll get extremely far. Since you’ll be running windows. Which has been the huge deal breaker before.

is it possible to play tree of savior through steam on mac using PlayOnMac? i just started using it the other day and it work with ragnarok online but when i play tree of savior it says the game is running but it wont take me to its login screen? any suggestion? because i cant use bootcamp because i dont own a copy of windows.
