Running Staff on Chaplain instead of Mace

Any downsides to running staff instead of mace. Most of the damage is dealt through aspersion and int anyway? Looking for someone more knowledgeable to give insight.

We can’t use staves, but we can use rods.

Rods are better when upgraded or if they have a higher magic attack stat, since that’s the most important stat for a chaplain. (Aspersions enhance attribute should work on aspergillum.)

is magic attack stats indeed the most important stat for chaplain? I know Aspergillum and Aspersion scales on magic attack which is raised only by INT? But it also scales with SPR as most of Priest skills.

So in the end… maybe SPR is actually the most important stat for Chaplain considering it has Priest 3 as requirement… Anyone compared Aspersion scaling with Magic Attack vs SPR??

For skills that scale with spr: int and spr are even BUT
Spr doesnt get 10% per-rank bonus while Int does. Also Heal and Cure get double benefits from Int.

I meant stats as stats found on your equipment, and i’m not aware of a huge spr boosting rod/mace. (Granted i haven’t looked to much at said categories)

Magic attack on rods works well for any stat build. It’s just the physical attack that doesn’t get multiplied by a enhance attribute, which is why that is less desirable.

And admittedly i haven’t tested spr vs int scaling on aspersion personally.
But int does get the +10% bonus per additional rank, and spr does not. And tosbase indicates aspersion has a 1:1 spr scaling.

Yea, rank bonus is very good point. I know about Cleric stuff being INT based.

I’m myself Priest 3 now and just started questioning my INT build but 10% rank bonus is good point.
