Royal Guard - Dragoon Build

Hello everyone,
My main way back in RO was a Spear-type Royal Guard, it had been that way even earlier as a spear-type crusader. Looking at TOS it would seem that Dragoon would be one of the best classes to fit this bill.

So here i am asking your opinions for a good PVE Dragoon build.

I’m looking for:

  • pure DPS

  • semi-tank

What skills and circles should i choose? And what stats should i prioritize?

So far with viewing topics here, one of the most prominent i see is:
Swordsman C3 > Cata C3 > Dragoon
(initially Swordsman C3 was my pick too)
What are the pros and cons of this build?

Note: i played TOS very briefly last year and i chose to be a ranger

sword3 and cata3 you will lose a lot of dps
if you want a good build and dont mind half of dragoons using
sword>pelt>hop3>doppel>dragoon

hhmmm
I actually want a mount so i’m still considering at least cata1 or something…

How about skills, what should i get / prioritize?

if u want PVE go for peltasta>hoplitec3>doppel>dragoon.
mount is good for PVP dragoon.
but PVE, the build i said is better. u can go full STR

swordsman c2-c3 suks.

and remember its not RO, all swordsman have dash, so u can go faster even if u dont have a mount.
and if u decide to go cata, u need to go c3, its not worth c1 or c2 only.

i played the build i said in beta, with 1dex every 10 levels, and its beast on pve.

cata3 or go home.the aoe on rush is good. if u want cata then go cata.
btw i dont think SB works on mount. so consider that. as a cata u should look up the skill compatibility list.

Swash Buckling works while mounted, all c1 Pelt skills does

Thanks on the insight guys. I didn’t know that swordsmen here in TOS have innately faster speed than other classes.

I think i’ll drop cata for now on my first build

you dont have to drop Cata, they are really good now, you just have to commit to them, or they’re not really worth it.

feel free to check out this build, it sounds like something you’d want

or if you decide to drop Cataphract

lol really? then cata might not be that bad. cata definitely has more mobility than normal swords though. and good pvp. only reasons why ill go cata

@Skrunken Got a question regarding your S>P>H3>D>D build.

Guardian cannot be used with Gung Ho.
And i believe you prio it more due to 18% EVA?

Even if Concentrate becomes useless later on, wouldn’t it still be more useful compared to a skill you won’t even use?

well it deppends on situations, there will be times where the 18% Evasion wont be necessary and you may just want to do alittle extra damage since you’re in no real danger anyways, and Evasion does nothing against magic monsters, so in such cases you just want to maximize your damage instead.

As for why im leaving out Gae Bulg, its mostly a lack of information, i havent played in kToS, so im limited to what i know from iCBT2.
The information i have is:

  1. Single Hit
  2. Lose Weapon untill Picked up, or for a duration which is unknown.
  3. Weaker to Physical Attacks for up to 7.5 sec, Weakness numbers unknown.
  4. +2% atk/matk or def/mdef for party in an area for 15 sec, might be good lategame, but 2% is pretty minimal at this level imo.
  5. Longer cooldown than the other 3 skills which is all under 20 sec, so in 1 minute you can use the other skills 3 times, and Gae Bulg 2 times.

So i find Gae Bulg to be too situational at this time for me to take it over the other 3 skills.
If you could get the 2% buffs without leveling it to level 5, i could see it being a 1 point wonder skill

Alright, but are Long Stride & Spear Throw really that important?
You could get Stabbing up to Lv.14 and max Pierce if you leave those.

And well, if you make a short comparison between Serpentine & Gae Bulg, theres only a 5 sec cd between, with a damage difference, 926 vs 3812.

Long Stride is a 1 point wonder, something to help close the gap in PvP, and its generally fun to use in PvE.

Spear Throw can be spammed, the video on ToSbase are outdated, it doesnt have any cast time

Serpentine is 5 hits though, so 926 x 5 = 4630

Ohh wow, i didn’t notice that one.
Then it totally makes sense, thanks mate!

No problem, i edited the other post with a video that shows the skills alittle more clearly

Oh i forgot to mention about Long Stride, the video for that is wrong aswell, it no longer have to be aimed, you just need to lock on an enemy and then its instant cast

Okay!
But last question then, why do you prio stab over pierce?
If you want to hunt bosses in a larger shape, wouldn’t pierce be a better choice?

its another question about whats generally more usefull.

Pierce does 4 hits (with attribute) on Large enemies, while stabbing does up to 10 hits i believe on all sizes.

so Stabbing is 399 x 10 = 3990
Pierce is 927 x 4 = 3708

And if you have bonus elemental damage, that is also applied to each hit

You are correct
Thanks!

Ops, said Stabbing twice…fixed.

And no prob

i would suggest theses builds too.
but for me PVE is full STR (dont need dex) hoplite c3>dopel>dragoon.
