Review of the game and many features to make the grind better - My view

Thanks for letting me beta test the game, what most interested me is the very unique class system. Each main class can branch out to still play a different role within another role. I like how your choices are permanent and really make you think about your decisions.

The game at it’s core is of course grindy, being closed beta I understand you guys are testing the systems and getting the core game worked out. I am not sure what upcoming features may be implemented but I have a few ideas. Lets focus on the core gameplay: It really feels like a console game with the controller support. I might try just use keyboard to get the serious mmo feel. The best leveling experience I had in a MMO was guild wars 2. As you were leveling you were Collecting/harvesting mats. Taking part in regional events that chained to bigger regional events. Fighting regional world bosses, you would automatically get grouped up with people around you. there was so much going on besides just killing that I forgot I was even leveling up. That was the key.

-Thoughts on Grind-
Tree of Savior is a hardcore mmo, but lets make the grind fun. Lets add ground pick ups, skinning, harvesting, mining, cutting trees or whatever be it. Mini regional events that lead to bigger regional events. Random rifts even? Level capped bosses so only lower levels can kill them. More dungeons, 2-3 and 5 man. I see you guys plan on having a pet system. I really like the exp card idea, that way friends can catch up to me. I can hold back my cards. Or let me mentor to them getting less exp and nerfing my power. The achievements are good and I think it’s cool how there is a ladder board for every single monster for who killed it the most. With the game really focused on the grind, there should be more abilities, movement abilities like dashing, sprinting, I see there is a random teleport. Lets have more world interaction obstacles, add jumping puzzles, walls to push/pull, pressure plates, traps to dodge/disarm. Dungeons should be rigged up with many traps. Why should every room feel like another monster slaughter? With the game’s god system, lets have many more god/shrines and chose a deity, lets gain god powers and build up pray points to use them. Or find rare shrines around the world to go back too for certain buffs.

Environment Graphics- 8/10
Very pleasing environment, I’d like to zoom out a bit more though and have some pan/tilt?

Combat 7 out of 10
A lot of standing still/casting/attacking, same use of same abilities. Interesting mechanics animations are good.

Character Design 8 out of 10
Amazing theme and art design but it depends if you like that style. More races and I would give a 10.

Sound 9 out of 10 Feels like a old london background in cities, but it matches well with the dark character designs.

Gameplay 5 out of 10 Repetitive, could also depend on what your looking for in a game.

Overall 6

Tree of Savior has nothing to do with hardcore mmos. If you mean its grindy, yes somewhat, but not even close to as grindy as a lot of other mmos. Hardcore means something completely dif.

Grind is not inherently bad. It becomes bad when the process is not enjoyable. There are a few things I would recommend to make it more fun.

Now this really only applies to int clerics but they need to keep the player busy. Waiting on cooldowns to do any real damage isn’t a great idea. Easy fix though, just give clerics a no/low cooldown magic attack or let them use the ranged attack wizards have when using a staff or rod.

Also if they don’t intend to increase the rates, at least add the illusion that things are going quickly. If it takes 10 mobs to gain 0.1% xp, then you’re not going to be seeing your bar move. They could fake it by having the xp bar represent say 20 or 25 percent of the amount you need and every time you fill it up it resets and a smaller bar next to it fills up. The total xp required to level stays the same, but at least you feel like you’re making progress and it motivates you to continue.

Yea cleric should have a bit of spells in case they want to utilize Int or Spirit. Maybe a low cooldown ray of light, stronger vs undead. For the exp illusion, people are using addons now that clearly show exp rate/hour. The issue is the grind wouldn’t be called grind if it were fun. It would be called leveling. Grind isn’t ever supposed to be fun. If people are saying “Grind” then there is nothing else to do. it’s that simple.

I have to disagree with the grind not being fun aspect. At the end of the day this is a game, and it’s supposed to be entertaining. The devs should do their best to make every aspect as engaging as possible. Having fun while grinding is far better then grinding without enjoying yourself.
