They don’t have to, its more profitable on both sides if they do. But you can do without tokens as well.
In the world of RMT Goldsellers hardly ever spend their own money. It’s part of money laundering. Often they use stolen credit cards to pay for things in game to turn into money then sell it to buyers. Game’s economies are sometimes crippled depending on how transferable p2w is when large enough piles of stolen information is used. There’s also been major issues when steam themselves have payment flaws.
This is just one way they go about never having to spend a cent on them. this is also why some game companies fight so hard on “f2p” games to deter RMT. Often enough they’re charged back the money anyways from the credit card companies. Otherwise from a business stand point, and especially in a period where everyone needs to be a paying customer anyways, IMC would like more bots and goldselling/buying
