Remove the Power Button or ask before action

This is a joke post right?

I use a controller to play, I hit escape on keyboard to log out… or switch characters and I’ve NEVER hit the wrong button.

OP has a point.

In Microsoft and Sony standards there is a clause requiring “confirmation of destructive action.”

Granted this standard is primarily for consoles, however, it’s still good practice to include it wherever possible.

Imagine if your next Class Advancement didn’t have a confirmation pop-up and you accidentally clicked the wrong one. Confirmation of destructive action is a good thing. While it isn’t too important in the scheme of things compared to fixing bugs or balancing skills etc, it’s still something I would also like to see in time. For polish and professionalism. Maybe in a few months they can squeeze in a confirmation if they have time but, until then, I feel there are more important things to address, making this topic more suited for the Suggestions sub-forum rather than General Discussion.

Way to go. People point out legit problems and apparently the right way to answer them is to dismiss it with hyperbole. Apparently asking for a confirmation is such an unreasonable request to you guys which warranted your snarky responses.

OP has a point because even if the power button didn’t give a warning, it shouldn’t shut down immediately since the buttons are very small and clumpd up together with a high possibility of misclick. Either it should have a confirmation or give 3 seconds to cancel before turning off.

And if there is a needless prompt on a common action annoying you every time you use it, it should obviously be removed. What were they thinking? Nobody’s dumb enough to click the button without meaning to… Just remove the worthless prompt already.

Never misclicked myself, but +1 to the OP.

That’s another complaint people make, good point. I missed that one. “Why do I have to see this stupid warning message whenever I push the button?” is a pretty common complaint in many MMOs.

As to the point - people in this community have already proven they don’t read messages anyway, so a warning/confirmation would do no good. Just a few days ago there was a whole thread of people complaining that only giving a warning message/confirmation isn’t good enough because they ignored the warning and deleted their pets because they didn’t feel like reading the message and just assumed they knew what the message said.

So why should I believe people will bother reading a warning message on the quit game button? They’ll probably ignore it like every other message, click it anyway, and then post on the forums that they pushed a button and their game crashed and they don’t know why.

Do you realize how close the exit button is to the setting button? If you use a mouse setting this is about 10 pixel away from the setting button. It is very easy to do a slight miss click and hit exit.

Windows 10 shut down has a check to see if you have programs in use before shutting down and let you have a brief window of chance to cancel shutdown. Do you think this is also annoying? No because you generally don’t shut down every often.

Jesus why do people narrow in on one option. I GAVE TWO. If people can’t read, make a delay timer of 3 seconds before the action is applied. I know reading is hard and people are too prone to clicking yes to everything, but there is a reason why there is a standard for prompting users to agree to a critical action. If you don’t consider shutting down a system a critical action . . .then I don’t …
A lot of state based software will prompt you on closing and you have to option to turn off that alert but they STILL HAVE IT IN THERE.

Some how that means TOS is a game you should feel ashamed to play . . . . . . . O_O

When you talk to one of the goddesses and your parents come and take a peek…
You know they’re pretty… appealing to the eye… right?

._. I did notice that the goddess had very . . . uh good aspect ratio.

I don’t know any power button that asks before action.
Not on my PC, my TV remote, light switch.
I think it’s nice how quick it shuts down when you feel yourRe done and I have no idea how you click that accidentally since you have to open up the menu for it.

But if people really have trouble with it, it might be worth adding.

And i hope people then don’t complain about having accidentally clicked “yes” and demand another “are you reeaally sure?!” popup.

They will. See here: Accidentally deleted Hoglan

Have you used ANY internet browser AT ALL? If you ever do a fresh install of IE, FireFox, Chrome. They will always ask you if you want to close all of your tabs when you try to close the window, unless you turn off that feature. If your are taking the word power button as in a physical object on a system that can force a shutdown, then I think you kind of missed the point by a mile.

Are you running window? If yes there is definitely a prompt before you shutdown. Unless you are running like windows xp even then I before shutting down they go through a process to check what application is running. If any application needs to be “saved” it stops the shutdown process. Even if no application require shut down it still closes each application one be one giving you a chance to cancel the shutdown if you have multiple application open.

Light switch is a terrible example for a counter argument. You don’t turn off a game as much as you do a light switch. If your light switch was connected to your houses power supply and shuts down your electricity every time you flicker it. You better have a dam prompt on that switch saying so.

I rarely use a TV and for the people I know that use it, they HARDLY turn it off unless they sleep, have guest, or just don’t want it on.

Why would anyone ask for a 2nd prompt? Sounds like your just arguing for the sake of arguing with that statement.

This is a case of actual deleting of character and items. Some games have better solution to deletion of character.

  1. x minutes til deletion of character after request of deletion
  2. request to type in the deletion of a characters name

Honestly the 2nd option is way better and less imposing as well as harder to mess up. You can’t really mess up typing a character you wish to delete.

Honestly the DELETE character button is HORRIBLY PLACED. It is right next to the place where you have to click on to select the character to login.

P.S A deletion of a character is way more important then closing the game, so I wouldn’t mind a 2nd prompt even stating the action you are doing. Also don’t give the argument that it is ridiculous, if you are deleting that many characters to be that annoyed by a prompt. You should reconsider where you are putting your time in.

Not on Sleep, Hibernate, or Log Off, though IIRC. Unless I turned that off, too. You can also right click->Exit a browser and I think that skips the prompt. TC is also complaining about Log Off and Switch Character being instant.

Considering Alt+F4 doesn’t work, I would be inconvenienced if those buttons didn’t immediately perform their function without the option to disable the prompt.

You can’t delete a character with equipped items, though. You have to first log in, unequip all your gear, log out, and THEN delete it. Not even a brand new character is born naked. You don’t need any further prompt.

As a mouse user I sometimes worry about this too, but Im just careful not to hit it.

As a mouse user, a bunch of times interacting with objects/mobs just doesnt work. So I have to switch my settings to keyboard temp, and then back again, and then back, and then back again.

Then again, I havent clicked it on accident yet, but I get this.
