Region locks and cross country moves

I was getting hyped for the steam release of this game after seeing some gameplay and wat about to buy a founders pack, when I found out that it is going to be region-locked. I was initially upset that I’d be cut off from a lot of my friends, but in addition to this, I’m going to be moving to a country that is a seperate region for ToS servers in 6-8months. Is there anyway that such my account could still have access to the servers from the individuals country of origin or could the account be migrated to the servers in the country I’m moving to, and if so, do the clients in every region support the languages from other regions? If you could link to some sort of official post on this sort of thing that would be great too, I’ve been searching, but haven’t found anything.

Greetings, sloom_jp,
what you are asking is that if you could continue to play TOS even after moving to a region-locked country, right?

I’m afraid you would have to consult with Valve on that.

Sorry for being unable to give you a satisfying answer Q_Q

Yes! So the region lock is completely on valves end? There won’t be any restictions by IP or something on the ToS teams end? That would be good to hear.

I’ve had this issue before and it turned out that valve only region-locks the purchases and trading of region-locked games. So if you purchase a game (or download a f2p game) before moving to another country, you’re still able to play it afterwards. So if anyone else runs into this issue, I believe this is the answer you’re looking for, assuming it’s completely on valve’s end.

Thanks for your reply John ^ ^

I heard that valve will ban your game if they detect you play with a region lock gift outside the region that in the list.

As far as purchasing a game yourself in a region where it is allowed and then moving to a region locked by valve, in my experience it’s always been that you still have access to the games after you move as long as they were on your account beforehand.

From Steam: “Gifts purchased in certain regions can be redeemed only in those regions. When you purchase a gift you will be notified at checkout of any restrictions that will be placed on the gift…When a gift is region restricted there will be a red notification icon in the corner of the gift’s image. There will also be a list of countries that the gift can be redeemed in within the gift’s description…”

EDITS: I decided that I’ve come this far so… This should answer all your region lock questions including gifting. updated my 2nd paragraph to reflect Valves region-lock FAQ in response to PoohVz.
