I’m seeing alot of wiz/clerics using red gems on their 315 weapons.

Yes it does work for magic damage
+[Maximum/Minimum Attack] modifier works for all attack types: Physical, Secondary Physical, Magic Attack; regardless of where it’s coming from.
An easy way to test is to equip a [Crystal Bangle].
Is there any advantages now using blue gems for weapons? If Red gems are better, I might start leveling those up.
They provide more consistent damage
They can reduce your max SP
Red gems are also better against high mdef mobs. So, if yor matk with 5 blue gems is 3000-3000, and with corresponding red gems it is 2500-3500. Then against 3000mdef monsters you will always deal 1 damage with blue, and 1-500 damage with red.
