Reasons for quitting or dislike IToS [With Update]

Due to the relatively new JToS release, there are a lot of people whom were on hiatus on IToS are emigrating to JToS.

In this Thread you can actually see the hype that a lot of players has with the JToS 1st JTOS thread

So my answer is, why a lot of people are quitting or disliking this game? post your reasons (serious reasons, not dumb reasons eh?).

So, i want to make a list of why a lot of people dislike so much the IToS, and maybe . Every single comment you guys post that is a reason of why quitting or disliking the IToS will appear in this List. No Matter how dumb or realistic they sound, if they are serious issues, i’ll add them to the list. Also, i need you guys to post how to solve those things that you think are a problem for the game that makes people quit or dislike the game. Maybe this way IMC can read the real issues of the game said by the playerbase, on what they have to focus more.

IMPORTANT: You need to post your reasons in first person (EG for dummies: i quit the game because bla bla bla, i dislike it because i don’t like the updates, yada yada yada). Also, you can give examples with stadistics, photos, etc.

…So, why are you guys quiting or dislike the actual IToS?

(1) - Big updates every 3 months (in comparison of KToS that every week there are updates)

(2) - IMC bad managment of the game and poor custom service: application of patches for useless Cs related stuff that gives more bugs than solving them, copy/paste answers when players report bugs, hacks, bots, etc, leaving unpunished players even with prooves.

(3) - Very easy game (players can grind and do dungeons for the rest of their lives, skipping a lot of the game story, lore).

(4) - Obsolete game concept, needs an upgrade.

(5) - Bots, AFK Necro farmers in different places.

(6) - Lack of good, engaging content (related with the 3rd reason)

(7) - Bad PvP system. Small area, Meta builds; no science on it.

(8) - The refining system sucks, ruining Hard to Get items.

(9) - The endgame content: is repetitive, boring and unfair (Challenges cubes for Raid portal stone recipes, etc; the distribution of items is unfair).

(10) - Lack of communications with player base (related with the 2nd reason).

(11) - This game is more like a single player game more than a MMORPG.

(12) - Revamping and Balancing is useless (related with the 2nd reason).

(13) - Bugs, lag, gameplay instability, unrewarding and frustrating mechanics and content.

(14) - Poor optimization.

(15) - Farming in the game gets worse from time to time. No more drops of cards, golden anvils or gems, which makes the farming frustrating and boring.

(16) - The game feels unfinished and unpolished, like beta test.

(17) - Game Engine sucks: because of it’s poor performance there won’t be large-scale PvP, big parties with +8 players; many people won’t be able to enjoy World Boss Events or many other events that involucres a lot of players.

(18) - No efforst against silver sellers and RMT, that are damaging the game. The punishing report and punishing system is only a placebo. So, cheating is permited(related with the 2nd and 5th reason)

(19) - Lack of rules against botters and exploiters (related with 2nd and 18th reason)

(20) - Lack of punishment in other servers. Klaipeda gets more attention with the bot/cheaters situation than any other server in the game. (can be checked in this list https://forum.treeofsavior.com/c/news/banlist)

(21) - TP Shop in IToS sucks in comparison of KToS TP Shop. Not many good products in sale.

(22) - IToS possibility of having unlimited accounts. the lack of methods to limit account creations causes that many botters/cheaters creates so many accounts for silver/items selling. Also this cause that bots can create a new account everytime they get an account deleted.

REMEMBER TO SEE THE ANSWER OF THE PLAYERS FOR A MORE COMPLETE EXPLICATION OF THE REASONS IN THIS LIST

i think for most people its the time between any significant updates, while kToS gets them every week or every 2 weeks, we only get a big one every 3 months or around that timeframe.
so people know whats coming for so long with info from kTest and kToS that its pretty discouraging to put in any effort before we see some of those updates here.

Actually most of the players dislikes are related to IMC non professional behavior with their customers.

I for one don’t like:

  • The way they do things: They apply patches, even these useless CS related stuff, and send together with them more bugs and security holes too. They did optimization last year, and within 2 weeks they broke the whole thing all over again. “We are looking into it.”

  • Answer us: When bug, hacks, bots, exploits and harassment are reported, we always get the same old answer, even through tickets as some users reported. Just a simple copy and past, that is the smallest issue on this part, the main issue is that they let many unpunished even with enough proof. “We are investigating.”

The first one is the most important, since fixing it would lower by half, if not more, the second issue above.

I’m not sure how jToS is actually, I did play for a week there, but due to the high latency, I left it alone, and I won’t pay VPN service to play a game that could, for all I can notice, be shut down in the spam of months, that is, if they keep the above behavior going.

They are not completely bad tho, they do hit the nail right every now and then, but unfortunately, it’s not so right as it should, as we get new bugs or revive old ones in the process, which imo, only show that they don’t do a QC before releasing patches.

To be really honest here. The same thing that keeps me taking week breaks logging only to check market or do small events is pretty much summed by these three, the most annoying IMO:

  1. Game too easy
  2. Game concept needs an upgrade/change
  3. Bot and AFK Necros trivialize the farming process (lower level stuff / silver) and you can’t fight against them for profit

I won’t quit because of this but it’s the main reasons I take my breaks.

I dislike the game’s lack of real content. I have played a different mmorpg before and while leveling there was significantly harder than this game. I remember grinding 2 hours a day only to get 10% exp. And I used to grind more than 12 hrs each Saturday and another 12 hrs on Sunday only to get maybe 1 level up. Leveling in this game has no challenge for me, but that’s my opinion. The game’s name for reference was Tales of Pirates 2

-It also had a good PVP system (TBL’s arena is like what, a size of a single room of a HUGE PK map in that game). PVP in this game is so petty. Small area. Meta builds. No challenge honestly.

What I like in this game is the market system though. Lately, all I’ve been doing is playing the market instead. If you know what you’re doing, I have almost tripled my silver in a month and I’m talking about hundreds of millions of silver. Then I just log out because that’s pretty much is what interests me to still play

I dislike that ToS doesn’t reward you properly for what you’re doing.

Acquiring Gear is an absolute pain in the Ass and after you finally got an item the refining system ruins it. Other Games go for either one of the above or neither, ToS has both…

Also the new endgame content…
Challenges give you RNG Cubes > RNG Cubes MIGHT contain Raid Portal Stone Recipes > after finally collecting enough Portal Stones you can do a Raid > at the end of the Raid you get a RNG Cube. EDIT: I bet the Recipes aren’t even equally distributed e.g. Pistol is a lot more rare than Pike and Pike is more rare than Non-Weapons.

Doing Challenges with three Characters and getting no Recipes at all for four days straight… Oh I finally got my Stones lets see what I get from Raid…
Baam 10 x Sierra Powder

The Existing Endgame Content? ET/Solmiki is pretty much “token exchange system” gone wrong.

I’m on a break because the game is like a drug, i feel i just wasted 1300 hours in this game when a balance update changes completely the gameplay of a class. (I’m not saying they shouldn’t balance it)

I also do not like events

the comunication with the playerbase is really disappointing

The Story/Lore of the game is mostly skipped and not valorized

Tos right now i like a single player game more than a mmo game

The game has no future.
IMC doesn’t know how to make games. They aren’t gamers, they don’t play video games and of course they don’t play their own game.
They can revamp and rebalance things as much as they want but in the end it’ll be the same broken game. Same abysmal performance, bugs and stability issues. Same badly designed, unrewarding and frustrating mechanics and content.

I’m just tired of waiting months for 1 clumped together update when we should be getting stuff monthly.

I agree, this game was made only to milk money, it’s cute, it’s anime style, westerners like it, they know this, but I believe they aren’t gamers or they like to play other games not their own.

I’m not even sure westerners like it if you look at steamcharts.
Western players usually have standards while people in Korea and Japan are more likely to eat up whatever trash Nexon & co offers them.
This is also why things will never improve for ToS. There’s just no need for IMC to make any kind of effort. Their gacha-based scammy business model works perfectly fine in Asia.

Friendly reminder: Steamspy has more data. CCU isn’t accurate for total population.

Two main things why I consider quitting TOS:

  • Poor optimization.
Granted my computer is not exactly new and top of the line but I expect better than what I currently had to endure every time playing TOS. Recently tried TOS on a friend’s house who bought $3k PC and guess what? Even though it performed better there, it still surprised us how much of a resource hogger TOS is (for what could be classified as game with sub-par albeit cute drawing style graphic).

  • IMC.
The way IMC manages their game and treats the customers does not inspire me with confidence. While I love the game enough to suffer the game’s apparent defects, it is not enough to make me spend money on IMC. I feel like any money I spent on this game is going to be wasted once IMC inevitably ruined TOS. Thus I keep my wallet closed.

I’ll just play a little with new builds for my characters when we get the full rebalance patch before going on my second long break since 2016 (maybe I’ll just quit ToS forever this time).

For every good decision, IMC makes three bad ones. The combat system overhaul gave me hope, but they’re throwing everything away with so many bad decisions.

  1. Farming in this game is always getting worse: one would think everything’s going to be okay after the DPK removal and the new unidentified gear with random sub-stats, but it seems the improvement of this system isn’t on IMC priority list. Besides, while they added unidentified gear to the global drop list for all maps, they removed many items that served as consolation: golden anvils, monster card albums, gems with high drop rate in dungeon maps. I’m actually getting more frustrated farming for Masinios materials that time when I farmed the materials for my lvl 315 weapon.
  2. The game seems to be on an eternal beta test: iToS 2nd anniversary is just around the corner and everything in the game feels unfinished and unpolished and IMC keeps turning everything upside-down to put more unfinished and unpolished mechanics in place. We had a Rank Reset event not long ago and we’ll probably need another one since everything’s getting changed again.
  3. IMC keeps repeating the same mistakes over and over again: Agny was one of the worst additions to the game and they’re doing the same mistake with Shinobi. The class is just Agny 2.0 for Swordsmen and every Swordsman DPS build is forced to take Shinobi. I won’t be surprised if they add Nak Muay skills to the list of skills copied by bunshin clones, otherwise it’s going to be an useless class. Transcendence was the biggest insult against the community. Not satisfied with that awful decision, they turned the anvil enhancement system into what we have today. If that wasn’t enough, it’s only getting worse with the upcoming Legendary Card upgrading system.
  4. Absent and clueless staff: we never get useful information from them. They take ages to translate a single post from the kTOS Dev Blog and it’s frequently poorly made. Seems like there’s no management at all. We didn’t even get a cheerful message with at least a Happy New Year on it this time. The lack in confidence from the staff is so obvious that they don’t even try to reassure their playerbase that this game will improve someday. What are their plans for ToS this year? What are they working on? Do they actually have a plan on are they only throwing changes and reworks at random to see if anything works? This only leads to lack of trust on IMC.
  5. Using the old Granado Espada engine: ToS is forever doomed because of that poor choice. The game will never be able to support large-scale PvP. The game will never be able to support bigger parties with 8 or 10 people. Many people will never be able to enjoy World Boss fights. It was a lot worse in 2016, but the improvements are being done at snail pace and are not enough for all players to enjoy everything this game has to offer.
  6. Zero efforts against gold sellers and RMT: IMC actually tried to combat gold sellers and RMT in ToS first year. Many restrictions were added to the game, but since then nothing noticeable has been made. Most of the strongest players in the server I play paid for their gear and they openly say it in the “/y” chat because no one gets punished for that. The “report” button in the market is pure placebo. You can report suspicious trades every day and the item will still be listed in the market for the whole week. This is the only MMORPG I played where people feel rewarded for cheating and exploiting.

Hmm, there are many things which I feel that ToS can improve, mainly balance and content stuff. Since game balance, content and optimisation affects all ToSs I’ll keep it for another time and talk about things which I dislike pertaining to iToS only.

Things which I really dislike (and hope some priority is given to them)

  • Lack of enforcement of rules against botters and exploiters. Bots are still there even when players report them for days. This is something which I don’t get, is it a tall order to spend 20-30 mins a day per server to visit the server, check on bot areas and ban bots?

  • Some servers get more attention than others. Check out https://forum.treeofsavior.com/c/news/banlist and see how many times Khaipeda gets a banlist update as compared to the rest of the servers. Given the server population shouldn’t Telsiai, Varena and Silute get frequent bot pruning too?

  • TP shop differences between iToS and kToS. Granted it is mostly attributed to player demographics (purchasing power, purchase preferences) and external factors such as credit fraud, I do hope that we can get the same TP products like kToS (mainly the costume packages)

  • iToS lack of methods to limit account creation. This makes it easy for bots to create more accounts when they are banned. This should be one of the priorities imo if they want to lessen the bot problem.
