So I have been playing this korean gone western MMORPG called Black Desert Online since its western release and have been having fun. Lately Tree of Savior has more of my time dedicated to it. However I logged into Black Desert the other day and noticed they had added a new feature; a chat filter.
What does the chat filter do?
- The chat filter allows users to specify what words and phrases they want filtered out of their chat. If a message contains the string(s) the users have added to their chat filter, the message is automatically blocked. For example. Let’s say my chat filter has the string “cheap gold”. Every time a chat message has “cheap gold” in its body, I do not see it.
Why is this effective?
- This is an effective solution because it allows users to block messages as they see fit. It gives users the flexibility to determine what they do not want to see. Many of the RMT sites we observe are the same. The same sites, just on many bots. Now RMTs may change up how they present their messages, however each and every attempt will limit the ways they can do it. While it is an on-going battle, I believe this is a cost-effective and simple solution to help clean up the shout chat for users and give them some flexibility too. I could even see the community coming together and sharing their filtered strings too!
Possible Implementation
Here is a third party application which does what I have explained.
I do not claim any responsibility for the program posted nor am I endorsing its use in any way. I am simply sharing this in hopes that the developers or relevant parties can take a look at the application’s use. I am not posting this in hopes that a user will download it.
Feedback
- Please let me know what you think about this idea. I would love to have the Staff comment on this and get some user feedback too. I am willing to shape this suggestion based on what I hear for an even better suggestion!
