Hello! I recently hitted lvl 170 on my AoE Ranger and decided to make one more build test.
I’ve been wondering about making a new hybrid using:
Archer - Ranger - Sapper - Sapper - Fletcher - Fletcher
I haven’t make a final decision yet, so here I am asking for Your opinion guys.
Things that I’ve noticed so far:
Pros overall nice aoe dps + crowd control possibilities. Usable only PvE though…
1. Having c1 Ranger gives you one of the best ranged missile-type skill: Barrage. Together with Oblique Shot * from archer it makes you monster against small to medium packs of monsters as well as it gives you good burst damage versus medium/large mobs AND bosses. Taking Steady Aim might be a bit controversial - especially if we look at this build from the late game perspective, but I still think it is a reasonable choice especially with skills such Barrage/Multishot (recent fix makes SA to be usable ONLY with Missile-type attacks :c so no trap+steady aim combo anymore ;C…)
NOTE: I recommend adding only 1 point to OS for XX first levels (to lvl 100 possibly?) and as you progress with your character - and become more and more SP sufficient - adding the rest 4 points.
2. Taking Stake Stockades as one of the first abilities on Sapper gives you extra ability to ‘crowd control’ your foes. Additionaly Claymore and Detonate Traps gives additional possibilities for more efficient kiting/controlling large monsters/bosses.
3. Finally we get to one of the most enjoyable-to-have abilities in the game - Broom Trap. Smart use of this ability can give you tons of fun as well as can bring monsters to their quick death. Used together with slowing OS (Switf Step + Oblique Shot) + a bit of kiting can be supper effective even against Large/Higer lvl monsters.
4. Fletcher abilities. Using Crossfire on top of Barrage + Broom Trap + Stockade combo amplifies your overall AoE damage output and Broadhead makes sure, even strongest mobs/bosses will bleed to their death.
= = = = = = =
Cons gold-consuming, hard and really painful for those who are not used to kiting + not merciful to many mistakes.
1. build may be quite hard to pull-off. Eventhough crowdcontrolling in ToS have not been too difficult yet, the higher you get the more “kiting XXX huge monsters at once” playstyle is going to be wearisome…
2 It is REALLY heavy gold dependable as we need to level our passive attributes to keep the dmg being relevant. Especially only lvl 5 Barrage is going to be lackluster towards the end-game.
3 the Cooldowns on traps require you to think twice before you decide to use them. Before you charge into battle against noticeable amount of monsters you need to have a plan. You can’t just mindlessly blow everything up (well if you manage to do that then… great
).
4. Im doubtfull towards Crossfire as it is quite disappointing to be honest. The hitbox of its cross-shape AoE splash is far from being regarded ‘good’ in any sense. Sometimes it doesn’t even hit mobs that are literally touching our target… and the further it spreads the narrower the hitbox gets which makes you hardly hit anything that is literally even 0.01 pixel from it. Each time I use it, the spread and actual hits seem to be random…

So, this is everything I’ve thought through so far. Please leave your opinions and don’t be affraid to call me drunk as one of my mates did… (but please do it in quite reasonable manner
).
Edit: sorry for my english, I know it’s bad.
