So i found this earlier and thought it was cool, so i figured id share it.

This video is old and is not a rea game in production this is just some kids side project that he has been working on for awhile i seen this about a year ago
I watched the first 2 seconds and it’s already better than any SAO game.
Also, these low res graphics have always been awesome in VR. I’ve played a lot of Quake II on my setup.
They added a skybox to RO which by default doesn’t have one.
Maps like gonryun or yuno just have plain blue background with clouds effects.
I wonder how they are going to make the sky inside dungeon maps like GH church (hopefully it wont be plain black sky).
The rest, mobs sprites, 3D object models and maps, seem all to be from the default game.
It wont be a game ever. If anythinf this is his resume for a job to show how he can design a 3-D enviorment. Its jist some kid in school doing this on the side for fun
But does look really nice
Why not? If he open sources it I’m sure there would be many people in rAthena interested in finishing his project and getting it to work with their servers.
They’ve already made a browser client from scratch and a mobile app (thats not the same as the valkyrie mobile one) that runs perfectly with their servers. Why not a VR client too?
Wont happen this guy has spent about a year just on two maps lol to redo every map in RO would take a whole enviorment development team to complete in a timely manner
Its still cool though. It brings me hope of a VR MMORPG. Maybe hyakku kim will see this and be inspired to do ToS VR. Coded better, in dx 12. Maybe bots cant do VR yet?
Best option is a remake of Ragnarok comes out within 2-3 years basicly remastered and then after that they would start to think about VR. The vr is way to new for small companies like gravity to focus on right now
Yeah but we’re talking about one guy alone here. What if you consider a group of people working on it?
And he probably took more time making those interfaces and VR controls interactiveness than the maps themselves. RO maps are already 3D by default and they already look like that, he didn’t make any maps, at most just added the skybox.
picture paying a group of designers 100k a year each to design that and the game itself would need around 10-15 people on the project thats over a million a year in design costs. Then you need to keep them on the payroll still while you spend a year or so testing and fixing stuff before you know it you have around 3million if not more spent just on the payroll for designing the game. Then the cost of advertising and everything. Games like the t breakeven within the first year so that means you would need over 300,000 people to spend atleast 10 dollars on the game thay first year just to make back what they spent. Dont get me wrong i absolutely love the idea and the concept but based on how cheap gravity is i do not see it happening and as far as an independent remake like this would take forever to make it happen then you also fall into copyright issues people dont realize that plenty of Pserver owners have been sued
You have a HMD? Which one?
I am getting one soon. Now that the rx 480 is coming out soon i will actually have a graphics card that can do it
Probably going with the vive because oculus seems shady being run by facebook.
Except RO emulators (private servers) aren’t illegal, hexing game clients is.
It is a grey area and i doubt any independent group would try to bring a whole resdesign of a game to the market when they could easily run into legal problems. 99% of pservers are hosted outside of the unitedstates for a reason. I have the best hope for a remake like this but like i said this video is over a year old and no new news on the matter
It’s not a grey area. rAthena servers are 100% legal.
Making a VR client from scratch and connecting to an emulator means they wouldn’t be dealing with hexed clients (since they made their own clients) and thus it could be 100% legal (unless gravity patented some in-game content but afaik they didn’t).
Biggest problem is that you’d have a VR-limited server.
Just wondering, but are you sure this is a year old?
At the bottom of the article i linked, it says “Note: This is not to be confused with another VR project “RAGNAROKvr”.”
This video was put up on jun 21st. It might be the same one, but apparently there is another thing similar to it.
Youtube has same videos about a year old
These videos came out around a year ago whenthere was some company trying to make ragnarok one or whatever i will see if i can find the link
I ordered the Oculus Rift as soon as orders opened up in January, but I also owned the DK1 and 2 before that. Got it in the mail last month.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Bj8tXKu4NlcB videos like this came out to remake ragnarok but it never made it to market game looks clean
On topic of the VR it seems the guy who made the videos took down previous videos in this video you are looking at version 1.8.9 last year he released videos of a much earlier concept. Must have removed videos and replaced with the more polished ones
