Question's About A Monk Build (I don't know what I'm doing)

Hi guys, I wasn’t able to play in any of the closed betas so I have a few questions for some experienced players. I’m kind of nervous to commit to anything without running it by some people that actually knows what they are doing so here I am.

The kind of play style I am going for is a build that is able to put out somewhat okay DPS, sustain itself solo and be useful in group play. Also I do have some interest in pvp, but that is sort of secondary.

Here is the build that I am going for, http://www.tosbase.com/tools/skill-simulator/build/hue68mv5do/

For stat distribution I am thinking 3 strength, 1 dexterity and 1 constitution. Or since from what I gather from the research I’ve done monks are really more about sustained damage rather than burst would going into dexterity be a waste? Would something like 4 strength and 1 constitution or 3 strength and 2 constitution be better?

I know these build critique posts are kind of played out, but before I commit to this path I sort of want to run it by someone so I know I’m not wasting my time. Secondly I just want to mention that it isn’t exactly like my heart is set on playing monk (I just always play monk in games that have it), if anyone has some suggestions that can do what I am looking for better, I am all ears.

Thanks in advance for anyone that has some suggestions for a scrub like me! <3

Aspersion is pretty bad as a skill since defense is underwhelming. I would recommend getting rid of it and putting the points into Resurrection and Revive.

1 point in monstrance is worth it for the DEX boost it gives, situational use but you might as well have it.

I would recommend taking a point out of iron skin and maxing 1 inch punch. Also search around for STR vs DEX arguments either way, there has been plenty of discussion on this forum and the subreddit as well about that topic.

Thanks a lot man! I will certainly make those changes. Without checking into strength v dexterity arguments is the 3 str 1 dex 1 con fine I was originally thinking fine? I just don’t want to mess up my character right out of the gate. I’ve also read that the stats aren’t as important as some have made them out to be, basically I’ve read that as long as I’m not putting point into int I’ll be okay.

If you want to wing it, I would not go with rigid proportions.

I would recommend getting at least 50 CON and focus on STR, you can get the CON whenever just don’t do it right at the start. Only get DEX if you find yourself missing a lot, but make sure that you upgrade your gloves for the accuracy first before wasting points.

Clerics start with piss poor DEX, so you may want to slap it up to 10 to start.
