Does anyone know how to set up an account or whatever I need to do to play JToS? Seems like the best version of the game right now and I’ve wanted to go check it out. Thanks in advance.
They have some type of block (IP block?) so you need something to bypass that. You can set up an account on the JP Nexon site for ToS.

You can register normally, but you need a VPN that provide Japanese IP addresses to be able to login.

Speaking on behalf of Esfores - thank you both for your help. Do you know if a VPN is required to play the game as well, or just to sign up for a jtos nexon account?
They IP block outside Japan, you must use VPN
The register you can do normally, it is to get into the game that you need VPN.
You could use one of the many VPNs people use for phantasy star online. It’s the same problem there
While I was setting up to play in jTOS any attempt I made to try to log into an account without using a VPN caused the account to be permanently inaccessible afterwards. I’m unsure if this would happen to you as well; just a heads up from personal experience.
You must also be on a VPN in order to access the servers as well, from my experience. Deactivating the VPN for me personally resulted in an error that would boot me to the server select.
jTOS is an amazing place to play with a thriving playerbase. Be respectful to their community while you’re there.

Ahh, good to know. Is that a permanent removal or did it come back once you enabled your VPN again?
Also, sorry for the late response. I was on mobile most of the day where replies don’t work for some reason.
I haven’t tested on jTOS yet but for kTOS, it will just log you out of the game. However if you try to do this too many times, Nexon will find it and block you.
Do you have a rough estimate of how many active players are in the most populated server there?

I question that too.
I do see they have a small queue time up to 100 as displayed on their main page ( which can be rigged)… so…
i wonder how big is their server size

1k+ would be decent for me. That’s like all of Tels + Varena combined, IIRC last time I played. Also, seeing some market listing screenshots, it looks like they’re serious about policing bots there.

On my first character when I reached the level 50 dungeon there were 40 people in the auto-queue in the middle of the night for them. This was maybe two months ago, or a bit less.
The first few channels of Klaipeda and Fedimian would usually be in the red as far as population goes as well.
Edit: Bots are VERY rare there, but they exist. Also, while bots themselves were very uncommon, it was clear to me there was a decent amount of macro users in low level zones. I was able to progress very comfortably though.
On the tesimony of ping I averaged around 150-250ms with a private VPN connected to Kyoto, Japan.
