❓ Are Koreans less likely to use cheats compared to players in other regions?

Serious question. Just something out of curiosity.

I’m not trying to start a race war here and this thread shouldn’t be one. There will always be rotten tomatoes in every basket.

I just thought that MAYBE the game’s design, particularly with regards to its loose security measures, was initially based on expectations that most KR players (being the originally intended playerbase) don’t really cheat and like the satisfaction of reaching whatever goal they have with their characters through honesty and hardwork.

If anyone has played, been playing, or know someone who’s playing in kTOS, please enlighten us. :smiley:

S. Koreans, for most games require the use of the a Korean identification card. Like a social security number here in the states. I know Ktos uses it. But most people would be less likely to do nefarious things when it’s tied directly to you.

edit: not entirely sure if you need a KSSN for ktos, but you at least need a vaild kr phone #. But still most online games require some form of identification (usually the KSSN)

Don’t MMOs in Korea require phone number verification to open an account?

As far as I know, they don’t use cheats (widely, at least) due to difficulties they experience if their NEXON account with all their games linked to their unique telephone number (1 per person) is banned.

I understand though why it’s hard to implement the same in an international scale.

I guess that’d be one of the primary reasons then why the game has security loopholes.

I think as stated by others, it’s the client side coding. It happens quite often in online multiplayer games, surprised alot of people are unfamiliar with this; but I do agree you’d think world wide video game devs would be better at that or at least aware of the possibilities.

For some games, it’s done so the game runs smoother. Im not sure if that’s the case with tos (laff if it is); or just sloppy or cheaper.

Also note, while I never played The Division, it was the most recent bigger game that had these issues that I read about when checking out info on the game.

They state in there the possible issues, and the complexity it takes to right that wrong ship. Gives a bit of perspective (considering how large Ubisoft is compared to IMC) at what kind of hurdle and challenges IMC has ahead of them.

This is what I was hoping for. But most companies in SEA/NA/EU/Whatever didn’t want to use that system. Because their mindset is, if we have so many free-to-create-account we will get much more profit. This is the difference. If you play INA server, you can tell how ■■■■■■ up their publisher is. If only they use this, less players will cheat. But you know their mindset is just for the $$$, and fck you community we don’t care if we got less profit we will just close the game and find other game then take it and start to milk the cows again.

First of all, S.Korea is the mother of majority MMO games. Their culture is very different from others. Almost all koreans play MMO. Adults and children alike play MMO very hardcore. That is why adults can play without being discriminate or called dorky and even as “wasting time activity”.

However, there are cases that parents was so deep into gaming that they forget to feed their baby. The baby is find out has dead in the next morning. Government immediately implement a lot of rules such as everyone’s account is connected to their mobile phones, children are restricted to play in midnight and etc.

This can’t applied in other countries as the playerbase is small. The problem also is not big enough to make government take actions.

Anyways, i don’t really understand why IMC didn’t add in gameshield on tos. Many MMOs have been doing it for years. Relying on steamguard or steamshield(if it exist) is useless. Steam is just a medium for international players connect each other. Steam don’t give a sh!t on how well tos running or it’s playerbase.

Very helpful link indeed :+1: This will give community better understanding of the problem. The long toxic ranting of “Fix it ASAP” is not as easy as it sounds.

Yes coz they have kssn…when one is caught cheating…they are easily banned…for life in that game…really cant return no matter what they do…you only have one chance over there…

To qoute from a different thread:

The game is more client based reliant, hacks are already inside the game client as admin controls/commands, even with any gameguard on, it’ll just think a normal player using the hack is an admin and thus be ignored.

The client structure need to be change in how it works as a whole before IMC can implement any use of anti-hack gameguards.

@Fuwaro Correct me if i am wrong:
Gameguard scan the user pc for any hacking or third party program that may alter the game files and check game files for any changes made.
The con of gameguard is any addon will be detected and user will be prevented from entering the game. Still, i think it is worth it for destroying hacks and bots.
Gameguard must also be updated every week same with weekly maintenance as it isn’t hackproof but will be more tedious for hackers to rehack again.


I think using the term “trust client network model” gives more precise meaning.
