Question about the companions

Currently we only have a handful of companions that are available in the pet merchant

So I’d like to ask if anyone here knows the difference between the pets?
Cause iirc from the ToS developer blog, not all companions would be mountable/etc.

However, in the wiki or some popular fan sites, I can’t seem to find anything that tells me the highlight differences between the companions. Sure there are stats but I think what matters before those things would be what makes each companion different from one another.

They all can help attack and pretty much same except some job can specific control it.
Stat might be a bit different? I havn’t notice mine before KR wipe so I can’t confirm about it.

Oh ok but how about being mountable and stuffs?
All I know is that falconers would be able to have some more control and effectiveness over their falcons (if they were confirmed as companions that are able to be bought that is)

Mount is only work with some job. (Cataphract and Schwarze Reiter)
Both Velheider and Hoglan should be able to mount if you play those job.

Every job can buy and use any companion (Velheider,Hoglan,Hawk). But it’s possible that mostly job don’t have specific skill to control or mount it. You can also train companion at NPC too if you want to make it have higher stat.

Ohh I see ok so in the end the capabilities of your mounts are bound to your classes instead of their own properties?

Kind of
With job skill…
Hunter can order companion to atk or buff it up.
Falconer can order hawk to atk or do aoe.
Both job have attribute to recover companion once it hp down below 50%.

Cataphract and Schwarze Reiter can mount companion.

For other job companion will follow around and do auto attack.

But even with just auto attack it still pretty useful imo because we can switch companion to other character in same account. If you gonna level up new character you can use higher lv companion to help you fight at low level.

Ok thank you very much! That pretty much clears up everything  :+1:

Can a Swordsman class have a Falcon companion? And if so, will the Falcon attack the enemies even without orders/skill to do so?

Since I’m not doing a Cataphract and don’t plan to mount the horrible pet, I’d like to know if I can have a Falcon and if it will be useful against enemies or just fly around my head when i fight.

I’m Swordsman/Barbarian and I tried to Adopt a falcon…
The game says no. :frowning:

How about the companion level? Does it follow your Base level on the time of purchase?

Nope they’ll start at lv.1

what? :scream_cat:

like for real??

yeah, they also level up with your kill exp, no cards, no quests.

Is there a difference between velheider and hoglan?
Why such a difference in the cost of food and pets?
Only appearance?

bumping cuz I too wanna know the difference between velheider and hoglan

I tried both and I could say currently, both seem to be at the same foothold
I wasn’t able to remember starting stats of my velheinder so I couldn’t quite compare but they weren’t far from each other
Just that I find it more cool riding a hoglan so far specially with those dirt running effects + hoglan poses better than velheinder haha

For real. I bought mine when I was @ level 75 out of curiosity. And they start @ level 1, idk if it’s bugged but those companion are like ultimate tanks. Even if they have 0 hp (I think, the hp bar totally diminished) mobs will attack them instead of you.

Hypefang, (my pet’s name) your sacrifices will be remembered. Thanks nakama.

I couldn’t agree more, as a cleric and mage player, it really is crucial to have one, especially when intending to level alone

Tried both companions… They are pretty much the same except Velheider has more base HP and Hoglan more base accuracy, crit rate and evasion. Also it seems stats grow up based on their base values.

Not sure if training pet will affect its grow potential (probably not). Will need another Velheider to test =/

It seems that trained stats do not affect stat growth rate. Raised both examples above to level 20 with velhider having some stats trained up to hoglan’s and some above.

Rush Dog’s damage seems to be pretty linear: Math.max(1, (comanion’s atk - target’s defense)) + Rush Dog’s skill damage. So it will always do at least 1+Skill damage.
