So I’ve seen a ton of guides that say C2 or 3 for Swordie, but I honestly enjoy the utility that Pelt brings.
I’m not 100% sure of this, but how well would something like this work?

prob not the best idea, u got some rlly wierd c1, and sm2-3 is rlly good for pain barrier and c3 double slash
I wouldn’t go doppel in a lancer build if it was me, and most of the meta swordsman builds take at least C2 if not C3 because of pain barrier/gung ho. I would drop doppel and add another swordsman circle.
Sword c2 and c3 brings Restrain to the table.
Hoplite 3 builds benefit from it because of Finestra. The highest Restrain level, the more you stun while attacking. There are a few other builds that benefit from it too, like Cataphracts, Fencers and Corsairs, for example.
While this is good, Pain Barrier is better.
Sword c1 builds struggle with knockbacks. A missclicked jump will cost you an entire rotation and your DPS job. PvP and PvE will be harder (mainly bosses) because you’ll simply be thrown away.
When you have an autoattack build or just sustained damage (like Cata’s rush, Hop Finestra and so on), you’ll be upclose for quite a while. You need to DPS while PB is on so you don’t waste time jumping or aligning mobs for your AoEs. Restrain is just a luxury on top of that, unless we’re talking about PvP, where it shines.
GungHo/Concentrate level 10~15 also makes a good chunk of damage.
and you should drop Doppel c1 if taking Lancer c1. If not taking Lancer, then replace for Dragoon c2 at Rank 8.
so you wonder what’s better
Peltasta c1 aggro and block or Sword c2~3 knockback immunity, stunning autoattacks and DPS boost.
An expensive-to-start option would be to get 3 x lv.10 Gazing Golem with Sword C1 and skip C2-C3. It’s not as reliable as the nearly 100% uptime (with Durandal) of C3 though.
Pelt with Lancer is kinda weird because you would then be switching weapons a lot during your skill rotations. If you like Pelt, then drop Lancer - and vice versa.
whatever you choose dont go goon lancer , long winduptime , weak dmg , weird hitboxes , bad scaling , bad passives , etc. there is a reason goon is being made fun of for over 2 years because its really really really REALLY bad.
